Are Bards allowed to enjoy the game ?

I am just wondering.... after taking my bard to lvl 41 i see that many players keep ordering around what song to play when, complain about not healing or not mezzing mobs or enemies... is that just with my bard or do the others get this too ? I never noticed that the other classes were ordered around as my bard.

Maybe mentalists are the new bards ... I notice that as soon as mana regen runs out it's Mana Regen please, Mana regen please, until I manage to get eveyone sorted out again.

I notice it with every buffing class as well (yes I'm guilty of it too) as ppl want thier buffs and they want them now.

Its a support class thing, but I'm surprised you get ordered around on anything non buff tbh, you seem to know what you are doing (as do most bards, and indeed maost everyone by the time they get up to the 40's)

Yeah mate, they do tend to throw orders at us, thing is, you play the bard and you need to set them straight, you decide what song gets played, who to mezz, who to rezz and who to heal.

Most of the time I don't have problems, people nudge me and say, um mana song, but that's only because I forgot to play it

My guildies really appreciate bards though and I have never heard any one of them complain when I am with them, maybe I am lucky

But some ppl who play bards do not play them aswell as others

If you ask for anything in game like a mana song,heal,mezz etc you ask nicely

I have played with some of the best bards in this realm imo

ppl like Xnijih Gaya Nicky Music I dont have to ask them for anything because they all know how to play.

I still enjoy playing my bard, and yes, people often do ask for end or mana songs. It's not always easy to please all members of the group, but if there are more end users than mana users, I will play end song during a fight, then switch to mana afterwards. If my mana is low, or I notice the casters' mana is low, I just say "Mana rest" after a fight, and the group just sits down till we are all ready to go again. IF someone pulls after I have said I have low mana, well, they can't blame me if they die because I can't heal them. I can't honestly think of a time that's happened though.

By the time a bard gets to lvl 30, they will often be grouping with higher levels, and those players are more knowledgeable about the game. Of course, it's a two-way street, as I am always interested in learning from other players, and am ready to explain things about playing a bard to them. We all make mistakes, but hopefully we all learn from them, and help each other to make Hibernia stronger by sharing hints and tips on how to play our characters in a way that best benefits the whole group. I am usually happy to oblige when people ask me to play one song or the other ... if the tanks want end song, but the casters need mana, let them sort it out ... and they usually do. The support classes are exactly that .. we support the tanks and casters (not forgetting the stealthers), and good support means providing what is asked for, at the right time.

I do somtimes feel taken for granted in some groups that have a "shut up and play the damn song, bard" kind of attitude, but I don't tend to stay in them long.

I don't mind being reminded what to play, we all forget sometimes especialy if its a long xp session and your mind starts to wander. Bards get little to do especially if your fighting things that dont baf, you stand there and play the songs, maybe throw an occasional heal and after a few hours of that its easy to forget to change songs now and then

If the party status had endurance bars I think it would help a lot, you can see when everyone is running low on mana and react but end you just have to guess.

It doesnt hurt to say please, I get annoyed when ppl demand "end song!!" all the time without asking nicely.

I've seen it so often that bards get ordered around and get to endure abusive language when they complain about it. There's just some grief players who don't pay attention to other people's fun. I usually leave groups like that. Funny though, those groups usually die once or twice soon after, and I get apologies and requests to make a new group (without the grief player) after they disbanded (;

And yes, Wardens get ordered around too, but not nearly as much as Bards I must say.

I guess I've been lucky with the groups I have been in. I have always felt welcome, needed and appreciated, and people always ask for a song, and always politely.

As for "shutup and play the damn song" I get that too, but worse as I can't heal so half the time in PvE I just sit around manasonging continually, occasionally standing to throw a stun or dd. I suggested to a group in jest I would be afk 30 mins and they had no problem with this...

I can only imagine that people in groups who feel the need to tell bards what song to play and when to play it don't trust their bards. If I was a bard and that was happening to me, I'd seriously rethink grouping with the same people again if I knew they didn't trust my ability. A bard doesn't get to level 30+ without knowing what they're doing.

Personally I appreciate it when people say "mana song" or "end song" - means I have a better idea of the state of end/mana usage rates in a group in any given situation. Mana usage rates are easy to monitor anyway but as Ortunga said there is a problem with not having endurance bars on group display. If people call for end song when they need it then after a few pulls I have learned when to play which song.

I love playing my bard, I have no trouble getting into groups that are often 5+ levels higher than me and with the right mobs it's great fun - baf'ing mobs are the best, keeps me on my toes chucking mez's about and groups I've been in have always been very appreciative of my prescence.

I wouldn't have known what I was doing if it hadn't been for members of my guild who guided me, gently chided me if I did screw up, and generally made me feel good about deciding to play a bard (which, incidentally I did after hearing that the guild needed one).

At lvl 37, I would never pretend that I know all there is to know about playing a bard, but I think I play her fairly well, and I'm having fun.

personally i use my end very fast (fast attacks, lots of them, lots of end usage), so i normally have to rest after every fight, with an end song it normally keeps my end at max during fights if i get low on end and theres not one playing ill normally say sommit like "low end", but as has been said a few times i am sure it would be a lot easier with end monitors like the mana ones :\

Well I have to say that most people realize the importance of a bard in their group so they dont want to piss em off.
And even better are the masses of good tanks who realize the importance of letting us do our thing (i.e. get the mobs off us)

If they keep harrasing U about buffs and songs then they dont know what they're doing (or U dont )
Solution: First explain how it works if that dont work, find another group

Note: as U gain lvls most ppl know how this game is played, was a bit worse in the beginning tho..

Miss, gabriel and becci - all 3 have been excellent over the past few weeks, and I have taken most of bard pointers from these 3 folks. Gabriel has a rezz rate I don't think I have ever seen, Miss mezzes like a demon and Becci is always around when you need someone.

Yep... when ppl want to really exp its usually not that much fun for anyone really... but then again... we all have our jobs in group. I dont get upset if someone asks me for damage add... or is someone tells me to nuke. Hmm... ok... you dont have to ask me to nuke cause i like it, but... tanks tank, nukers nuke, healers heal, bards play songs and mez... i dont see any problem.

Some groups arent as much fun as others of course... but some bards are oversensitive for requests... i remember once grouping a 10 lvl´s lower bard... we were supposed to go RvR, but instead we went exping... things were going great, but getting manasong for breaks was impossible because he/she had to switch instruments... so we had longer downtime etc... and all the time our bard was wanting this and wanting that... maybe they are getting too rare and too royal? It takes some begging to get her royal bardness to group nowadays...
