Well I don't think Paul or any of the other disciples are good action novel writers.

I'm a Catholic, thanks.

Depends what you mean really, were you just brought up as a Catholic, did you get confirmed, etc, do you actually lead a Catholic lifestyle, i.e. regular church attendance, no contraception, rating the Pope above the Queen, etc, etc.

Just how Catholic are you ? The Pope still believes the Sun goes round the Earth, do you ?

I was baptised a Christian, I had little choice in the matter at tge time, but I certainly wouldn't call myself one now, I didn't abandon Christianity, I abandoned religion completely, I live my life by my own faith.

If you do consider yourself a Catholic "by the book", then you probably deserve all the piss-taking anyway, and who cares, you'd forgive us later ;)

is this not taken back? Galileo was said to be right according to the catholic church, not? tbh i dont know.
I do agree a personal religion is best, I think an organized religion aint good. Though i do believe there is a god.

Nope, the Pope apologised for persecuting Galileo but did not go as far as to admit they were wrong and he was right, after all, the Pope is infallible and cannot ever be wrong. It took them around 400 years to make this decision, so I don't see the issue of Catholic child abuse being solved any time soon.

The Pope is only infallible if he invokes his papal-infallibility rights. As far as I know this has only been used about 4 times. I don't remember astronomy being one of them. Could be wrong though :)

In general, any announcement by the Pope in the form of an edict, is covered by papal infallibility, but technically this does actually require examination of the actual pronouncement.

I am actually incorrect in bringing up the subject of infallibility in relation to Galileo, I think the docrine of papal infallibility was much later and didn't actually apply at the time. The edict on the sun-earth relationship was made during Galileo's lifetime (17th century), as yet it has not been overruled.

Ah, that's OK then. It's been worrying me for a long time.

hmmm is it not the otherway round (i think). 15th century everything the pope spoke out loud was the truth, just lately it has to have the pronouncement.

About the child abuse, it has been said that the american bishops have to come up with a solution, the pope aint gonna touch it. Nice comment from the dutch cardinal, "child abuse from priests gets more attention then child abuse from aid organisations"

I'm not a catholic 'by the book' as you put it. I got baptised, didn't get confirmed, still go to church, don't rate the Pope above the Queen, the Earth goes around the Sun, I don't believe that god made the Earth etc, but I'm still Catholic.
