Anyone still being kicked out to desktop in SI?

I still have a pc that will not run daoc now without kicking out to desktop ! have tried all the usual driver updates, dx8.1 and 9, via4.45v, re-installs etc... waiting for a response from 'rightnow' atm.
Im interested to know who still has these problems and more importantly has any previous sufferer managed to figure out how to fix it ?






Im still getting the usual errorlog :

game caused an Access Violation in module D3D8.DLL at 001b:019bc007.

I got the same prob, rightnow is helping and us is helping to ( I told em I have a us acc ) but it still doenst work nor did they find a solution.

btw, where do ya find that errorlog ?

Well i went down the jolly route of reformatting last night, i opted for 98se instead of xp xos im sick of xp anyway, it got too late so i havent installed everything yet but basically im just going to install via4in1 then 30.82dets then directx8.1 then daoc+SI and nothing else, if it doesnt work after that then i may have to give up. Will post here with results tonight.

finished install in my lunch break.

Well, it now works for a minute or two and then freezes the whole pc ! have to switch off at the plug.

So i have progressed to a new problem

This has all been one great cluster f**k from GOA the way I see it. Been spending several days now validating my cd-key and when it does SI just kicks me to desktop after the character loading screen has finished

If I had a old computer with strange hardware I would have accepted this with a angry growl.

I dont. Running SI on a XP1800 with a GeForce Ti 4200 card.

It is definatly your PC and not the disks you got... because i play DAoC SI on one of my PCs and it runs fine and on the other it crashes to desktop

well the US version has had SI for a while longer than us and they have had no fix for it afaik.

I have this exact problem!

I dunno how to fix it..

I have a 2ghz
256mb ram
gf4 ti4200



This is on SI and classic daoc.

It is a known problem that people with 512mb RAM or above gets kicked to desktop when running SI under win98 winMe Win98Se and win98.

I switched from Win98 to XP and then it worked. So if you have 512mb RAM there is a very good chance this will help.

I am now running Windows xp Professional

Just a little update here, there will be no patch that "fixes" SI to desktop crashes, since the problem isn't with SI directly. It's hardware combination problem, and that can be a real sucker to fix. Hopefully GoA/Mythic can track your problem down, and come with a solution/precise explanation for you.

If you have a ViA chipset on your motherboard try this url for some tips:

Other thing you can try is remove the top of your computer case to increase airflow, try playing with the top off and see if that helps. If you use win9x and have 512+ mb ram either install w2k or WinXP or check this url out (for a win9x fix):

If your overclocking anything, don't as that could be a problem too.
