If so what's it like.

I can get all you can eat data and calls. All the others have limits on data :(

First time I have to buy my own phone. Always used company ken before but new company stipulate business only on their phones.

Looking to get the z2.

I've ordered an all you can eat SIM for £26 per month on a 1 month rolling contract, I'll be able to tell you what it's like by next weekend if you can wait.

EE and Three seem to be the best for data relaibility, but I chose Three for a similar reason to you. EE was more expensive and a cap of 4GB.

I'm on Three and have all you can eat data and have 0 problems. Also the speed is fast, I either get H or a 4G signal in my area. The only limit you have is a 2GB hotspot allowance a month, probably introduced to stop people using their phones to give unlimited internet for computers.

What do you mean by hotspot allowance?

Means from each tower or something?

Most modern phones have an option to become a wifi router so you can connect another device to your phone to share its internet connection, tethering through wifi instead of a usb cable. You have unlimited internet for your phone to use but if you connect another device to your phone and use the internet from that device then you have a 2GB allowance for that a month. The limit was put in to stop people from using computers and other devices to download excessive data amounts and to make extra money from you if you go over that limit.

I've been on 3 for ~3 years. No major issue, the indian call cneter is slightly annoying when you ring them but i've rarely had too.

Signal is good in most cities/towns. But gets a bit flaky in hilly countryside, as do most networks tho.

The Feel At Home stuff is awesome if you go to those countries, currently i pay £15 pcm for a All-you-Can-Eat with old tethering on it, noone else comes close for the price. Misses is on the same with an iPhone 4s, doesn't have signal issues either.

Well let me pose this comparison for you.

Here's my data speed on Vodafone (measured from the bay window of my flat):

Here's my data speed on Three (measured from the same place):

So, like i've bl33ted about already here, Vodafone suck a bag of fucking dicks. Three on the other hand, are faster than my own fixed line broadband!

I'm not even in Edinburgh, I'm in a small-ish town not far outside.

Best was 54/29 with 50ms...which would be great if I didnt have a 6gb cap

I'm on the one plan as it allowed me to tether with no limits on data at a time when I had just lost access to the internet. It's decently stable, decently priced and I haven't had any issues with the connection. that said, I can no longer get signal at either my parents house nor a couple of my friends house where it always used to be troublesome. Now I flat out cannot get it which I guess is partially the luck of the provider; previously I was with Orange but with a very old phone which subsequently had a very good signal.

That said, they miss-sold me my original contract and it took the usual not hanging up, asking to speak to supervisors etc through four separate people who said to get the contract I wanted was impossible. They even said I could cancel if I wished which would cost me 95% of my entire 12 month contract bill...

I've also had since the beginning of last week, four calls a day from an 0800 number which I had ignored until today. I answered this evening and it turns out it was three (confirmed by lookup) offering me a new phone. The phone total contract cost wasn't a good deal so I said I had no interest at which point the caller became very abrupt. Call centres aren't nice places to work and it's pretty much luck of the draw but the sheer quantity of the calls throughout the day irked me somewhat.

Basically, if you get the right contract in the first place, luck into no connection issues and tell callers to sod off early on, they're pretty good. As for tethering though, even the unlimited one is pretty inconsistent, at least from what I've seen. I've tried in numerous places and the packet loss isn't the issue, it's the disconnects after a number of minutes of use. They happen relatively frequently and can last for multiple seconds at a time sadly making it not a viable option to replace 'actual' broadband with... which was what I was looking for at the time ^^.

Not tethering at all. It's all phone use spotify etc and maybe football from sky. Is why I don't want data limits. Connection so far good. I tried voda in Central London and it's awful. Not three has international clap trap. Even more happy to have them. I am tolerant of disconnects. I am not surprised by technology limits and expect less than perfect service cause nothing is perfect.

The speeds are good but signal strength and coverage are hopeless
..everywhere I go on my job I have to leave the phone upstairs to get a signal, and I've got the exact same problem I had when 3G came out..the phone keeps searching between Hsdpa and 4g and can never make it's mind up...since getting a 4g contract my data connection has gone to the dogs outside the town

Job, just disable 4g/lte then. I only ever turn on lte when I'm at home and the broadband is bring utilised for Netflix and iplayer etc. I don't need 4g speeds for everyday use, or the battery drain that comes with it.

This is Edinburgh.

Impressions so far? Rock solid data performance, and final-fucking-ly no dropped calls unlike Vodafone's constant disconnects.

I really like Virgin mobile (EE network) and if you are a Virgin media customer you can get a sim with unlimited everything on a 30 day rolling contract for £18 a month, unlimited *everything*. I have been on Giff Gaff for a few months now (O2's network apparently) and I have never known such a god awful reception on a mobile phone in all of my life, I miss really important calls regarding my mum and other such things because of the shitness of them, just ported over my number to Virgin today though. I shall now move this thread to the techie section.......
