I agree Sar, I'm deeply hurt by Aada's suggestion that I go kill myself. Wishing death upon another forum member is aginst the Coc.

And as Magnolia tuaght us, you should always respect the coc.

I don't think you're a cock leggy, really - where as Aada is so it's more the truth than insult ;).

An FPS where the graphics look aged, the physics don't feel realistic, sound is unconvincing and the AI is bad won't be fun to play, it's that simple. All those elements might be purely technical, but they make or break an FPS.
Quake 2. Half Life 2 kicks the shit out if it graphically and the physics are more convincing... But why do I still play Q2 everyday?

Oh the memories of a gun that took forty years to spin up before firing bullets.

I was shit at Q2. You probably guessed.

a) Because your pc is too crap to play anything else
b) Because you're far to set in your ways and unable to accept change
or
c) because you're no good at anything else

:D

a) My PC plays CS:S fine
b) I'm able to accept change, I'm in a BF:V clan and a True Combat clan
c) I'm good at everything

Single player FPS games are shit.

I find multiplayer RTS a bore, but I don't claim those games to be shit. They're just not for me.

If you're still on Q2 single-player then that's fine, when it came out in 1997 I loved Q2 too and completed the game long ago. But for me more recent single-player FPS (to start with the original HL) utterly destroy Q2, I simply couldn't bear playing it anymore.

And with me most other FPS enthousiasts.

Well having just completed it, I have to say that while technically the game is unsurpassed, for atmosphere Call of Duty was better (IMO). There weren't quite enough 'OMFG LORK AT THT' moments in HL2 (remember the german bombardment of Stalingrad in CoD?) Stuff like the big chimney falling down when you're on the airboat was cool, but it really needed more 'FUCKING RUN AWAY FROM THAT BIG BASTARD THING THATS FALLING ON YOU AND SPITTING DOGS'

Still its a fucking brilliant game, and should rule the roost for another few years, provided the mod community can make some good games for it.

PS - anybody watch past the end credits? FUNNEEEEE

Oh, btw, Aada you're a knob suckling flidtard.

One of the few singleplayer games that I enjoyed playing to completion.

The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of DM. However, there are some bods working on a DM, and the 100 of us that are interested would probably play the community MOD over valves offering anyway tbh :)

I'm not much of a fanboy when it comes to singleplayer games, they bore the fuck out of me. That said, I have completed a few in recent years. Anyway, HL2 held me throughout and I couldn't wait to finish it to find out how it ends, I wouldn't say that's a shit plot.

The most impressive thing about the game was the physics and gameplay, absolute quality. I'm hugely excited at the thought of where games can go next using the HL2 engine.

Oh and HL2?

That bird was tasty. I kept trying to use the gravity gun to take off her clothes, and Dan asked me why I kept looking at her bottom.

- Totally bug-free too.

About the gameplay, I love it too ... :worthy:

well I found 2 bugs so far

a) when you get the grav gun I got Dog stuck, the game just sat there and no event was trigered, I had to load the autosave and do the thing again.
b) I fell off a half a meter ledge at 100 health and about 80 power got stuck in mid air for 10 secs and then died

granted not the wurst bugs i've seen in a game (mainly due to the excelent autosave :)

Another bug later on in the game, very common, where you can't jump. If ever you're on a level and you stop being able to jump, go back a save game.

The flames sprites are bugged, in that they're 2-dimensional sometimes (when viewing them from above)

The stuttering sound is definitely a bug.

I've seen Barney and Alyx 'lag' occasionally.

I got that "no jump" bug too, I thought it was intentionally so spend quite a while being stuck trying to figure out how to get over that ledge ... then I spied on a hint forum ...

The stuttering should be fixed soon by a patch.

What a crock of shit imo HL2 has less atmosphere then D3 there is no scary moments that make you jump..

Dunno if anyone else said this but atmosphere doesnt always have to be scary. Fallout had one of the best atmospheres ever and theres nothing scary about any of the games, imo.

The hl2 engine is quality, it has to be said ...... however, the game itself is as dull as any other single player first person shooter imo. Since the eve of multi-player games, sp just seems so completely pointless, but each to their own.

I don't think making comparisons with d3 is fair. Doom3 was a showcase for the engine and we will see many many top quality games in the not too distant future using the d3 engine and they will look and play stuningly. I think d3 did what it set out to do ...... it's just that people aren't looking for that in an fps game these days.
HL2 is good if you like that sort of thing I suppose and css will keep the kids happy, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that some decent mp mods come out of it and am particularly keen to try dod and any decent ctf mods.

Single player FPS can be great, like Deus EX and System Shock 2 had great single player and very good replayability.

Lets hope they take advantage of all these great engines and make good single player games, as am not a huge fan of amazing graphics and Online play, as things can get very laggy and super low fps.

Why i used to play Q3 with the lowest settings i could get it at. :D

Ran HL2 about half an hour ago and it'd updated something, no idea what though. Is it possible to find out?
