We had a talk about a vegas trip and we came to the conclusion that two birds, one stone.

Get a cheaper flight to some city that's close enough (like a 100mile drive), rent a car, go visit vegas and see a bit more of the US, maybe visit some smaller town on the way.

Might be cheaper that way too, own choice ofcourse etc.

I was thinking of doing the Hoover Dam and the Canyon too, looking at the end of Feb. The MGM Grand looks good and not as expensive as i thought it would be, i'm sure i could get a cheaper hotel, but you've got to do it in style haven't you

dont be tempted by the 9/10 girl that asks you to go upstairs and fuck based on your accent - her three large boyfriends will fuck you up and nick your cash and chips.

Package deals for vegas work out much cheaper Edmond, from about £500- £700 for 4 nights at a decent hotel.

Stick to the 4* hotels like TI, no point paying extra to stay in the Venecian, Bellagio, Mirage, Wyn etc. They look lush, but their rooms are the same and you can visit all the hotels for free anyway.

Stay central to the strip, Luxor, MGM and the crappy kidde themed Excalibur are way down the end of the strip (and it is HOOOGE). Same with Stratosphere, it's way down the other end of the strip past Freemont Street.

I've stayed at TI 3 times and would recommend it. It's near the shopping center, and a very central in terms of the Strip.

Try and plan your time, as it will go quick. If you want to do Hoover Dam and the Canyon, remember that they will eat a whole day, it's about 5-7 hour drive to the Canyon from Vegas. So you'll be leaving early and getting back late. The helicopter trips cost a fortune.

For getting up and down the strip you can use the tram if you need to go a long distance. The walk is a lot longer than it looks. It's worth trying to catch the shows at the front of some of the casinos (like the fountains at the Mirage) in the evenings, but check the times as people flock to them and it can be hard to see. Not worth getting a taxi to get around the strip, the traffic is awful. There are also local buses that go down the strip and service the local outlet shopping malls, but a cab to these outlets is not to bad.

Drinks ARE free if you are gambling, even if you are just playing the slots. As long as you tip the waitress, she will make sure you are well lubricated and come back often. If you are drinking at the bars then you should be tipping the barman a dollar per drink roughly, as they are cheap as well. The clubs however are not cheap, roughly London prices, so don't tip there.

Damn, I sooo need to get back to Vegas, or Prague. Time to start saving!

Oh and go see some shows, the "X rated" shows are shit, and you will see nothing, may as well go to a titty bar, the proper shows like crique du soliel etc, are far cheaper than you'd ever get over here.

Or fuck off to Estonia with £5 and live like a king, sleeping on a bed of nekkid lapdancers whilst c0ck hungry slave girls attend to your every need?

Seriously, I've never seen the attraction of Vegas :)

I've been to Vegas once, nothing to add to what's already been said, but stay central - Vegas is a complete dump once you get off the main strip. I stayed in a gaited community about 5 minutes from the strip in a cab and enjoyed that as it was cheaper than the hotels plus much quieter. Also served well as a base to see the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.

The Stratoshpere was overrated, plus it's up a shitty end of town.

Why, did you get instantly hammered

Yup - got off the plane and started drinking - did about 36 hours boozing and gambling before passing out in the hotel bar ;)

Did a heli tour though, and that was cool.... I fell asleep on the way back mind :D

That's only half the story - it's missing bits like hotel security wheeling me up to my room in a wheelchair and me coming back down to the bar.... 3 times ;)

It was a stag do, and my exploits are legendary :D

For some bizarre reason, my girlfriend agreed to marry me a week or so ago. We've always said, since our first date, that when we do get married it will be in Vegas.

A good mate recently did the same with a package at the Bellagio. Admittedly the minister wasn't an Elvis impersonator, but hey, you can't have everything!

We're saving now to try and get the deed done within the next couple of years. I'd like to make it a good 3 week stay, doing New York, Florida and then finishing up in Vegas for gambling and marriaging.

Yep, pretty much. We'd worked together for a couple of months, but hooked up on my last day with that company. We had moved in together two weeks after that, and I had her pregnant within 6 months.

We're three years down the line now and I'm the happiest I've been in my life.

I went to vegas when I was about 14, literally for a night and a day.....we'd gone specificaly to see Seigfreid and Roy. Bloody amazing show, shame it doesn;t happen anymore, but when you're living in close proximity to white tigers, I guess a mauling is to be expected at some point!
Anyway, we stayed at treasure Island....well worth it, lovely rooms and a HUGE hotel. Also has a good show out the front a few times a day of pirate battles and ships sinking etc
BE warned, as by others....the strip is MUCH longer than you might think!

If you're out there, make sure you do visit the Grand Canyon. It's just... no words can describe, no photo can really do justice, to how magnificent it is. We stood on the brink of it, and watched a storm travel in front of us, lightning hitting the ground, while we were in bright sunlight. It's that big. Meh. Big isn't a good enough description. Vast.

Watch out at the poker tables - they hold lessons, but the professionals mark each and every player that attends and rinses them for all they are worth if they venture into a cash game later.

And really really do avoid venturing outside of the nice areas. The nasty areas are just so unbelievable nasty.

definately do the Grand Canyon.

Also, check if the Hoover Dam has started the tours again - I honestly cant see the attraction of going to the Dam if the tours arent on. if the tours arent on, i wouldnt recommend. It will be a nice drive but a bit pointless in the end.

Have the tours been stopped then? My brother went a few years ago and he went down inside it, said it was awsome
