it awesome :p

some slight AI issues, but some of that is fixed through patches/mods etc :p

also Kingdoms (expansions) is a must! adds loads of neat things (and you can retrofit it all through a patch :p ) the Crusades and Teutonic campaigns being especially amusing :)

It is pretty excellent fun. The AI hasn't improved much in city sieges, but you can still get some pretty epic battles. I found the AI was a little trigger happy tho - alliances count for very little, you can make peace in one turn and then be at war in the next.

Fantastic game, only wish they had implemented an online campaign mode
I cant wait ofr the next one, sea battle ftw :D

If you complete it i seriously suggest you download a mod called Clouds Across Europe, adds many factions which were presant in history but missing in the game
Fixes many Ai issues as well as other bugs as it concatenates many mods which were designed to fix things

edit: i suggest if you have a powerful pc turn off the unit limit for some insane battles :D
1) Go to \Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War
2) there is a file called medieval2.preference.cfg, back this up (make a copy)
3) open medieval2.preference.cfg in notepad
4) search for a line called "unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 0" (without quotation marks) and change it to:
unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 1

That was an tactical Error, but we did dam good for being such a small country. And the russians had about twice the size in numbers. But that was due to the same shit as always, the russian Winter... :) Without it Russia would not be Russia

And everyone feared the Lion from the North.

Well personally I don't like it. The battle map camera is completely fooked, very hard to control. The campaign map is just annoying, there is far too much that needs your attention. Merchants? Why? As far as I'm concerned the only thing 2 has over 1 is graphics. Also the spying and assassination videos. That's all, aside from those the 1st game is infinitely better.

its a truely epic game... great stuff.. however

if playing the campaigns, change the speed to 0.25 for more realism.. those blokes die of natural causes far too quickly if on normal speed.

This is better than any computer game

Squeak Piggy Squeak is a parlour game that is sometimes called Grunt Piggy Grunt.

To play the game, one player is chosen to be the 'farmer'; the others are the piggies. The farmer is blindfolded. All other players sit in a circle surrounding the farmer. The farmer is spun around three times and then has to make his way to the piggies, and sit in the lap of one of them. The farmer then says 'Squeak Piggy Squeak'. The chosen piggy then squeaks and the farmer has to guess the name of the player on whom he is sitting.

If the farmer guesses correctly, the piggy becomes the farmer in the next round. If the guess is incorrect, then the farmer remains for the next round.

While I do enjoy Total War from time to time I must say that I much prefer the Paradox games, sure it lacks the 3d combat but honestly - who doesn't grow bored of fighting of Carthage or whatever time after time after time, even if you just signed peace with them and allied.

The Paradox games are more plan ahead, less battle strategy but more global, an example would be planning D-Day yourself only that this time you are playing as Sweden and actually sieging Germany while your Icelandic(yes, it belongs to the 1st Swedish Reich) troops jump Canada!

by Paradox games I of course mean, Crusader Kings, Europe Universalis III, Victoria & Hearts of Iron II.

Totally agree with Helme on this one, still playing EU3 Napoleons Ambition now and HOI2 on the go as well. While I love the Medieval Total War games MTW2's AI really just killed it for me, just so unrealistic, its like playing with a world run by manic depressives, minor nations blockade your ports for no reason. People declare war and then sign a truce in the same year (and vice versa) and just seem to leave random armies scattered all over your land regardless of where you stand diplomatically.

While some of the mods do seem to alleviate this issue I take issue with paying £40 for a game that the player base then has to fix for it to work properly.

Compare this with the AI in EU3 and the difference is massive, in my current game as England my alliance of England, Scotland and Burgundy has been at war with the alliance of France, Brittany, Lorraine and Armagnac for about 15 years now and I just cant quite get the decisive victory and still keep getting surprised by enemy counter attacks (including the French sailing 6000 men round the back way and landing in yorkshire).

We can confirm that Empire: Total War's release date has been moved to March 2009.

"The extra development time will allow us to finalise and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release."

Significantly the additional time will also allow us to implement the underlying technology for a much desired feature (thanks to your feedback!); a multiplayer campaign mode. An opportunity to participate in the 1 versus 1 multiplayer campaign mode beta will be made available to all Empire Total War buyers post release.

Apprently there will be multiplayer campaigns.

It's great, but as peeps say the AI can be dicky and it has the usual endgame drag with these games (can anyone seriously be arsed to play right to the end more than once?).
