I've pretty much lost all interest, now. Going to play ffxi for a while, then come back, just to see if I enjoy it again.

It's a bit of a shame, really. This game would have been so much better if I had rolled a Blaster as my first char :p

But like i said will see out my first month really need to join a guild ive tried pming you Kinzana but you aint on heh :)

In my experience in online games it's always friends/guilds/community which takes away the dullness. Even pickup groups ;) Give it a change, if it's not for you then it isn't. But don't be surprised if this is what you'll see in WoW: Kill sama mobs in different textures, do quest, level, kill, quest, level, kill, quest, level...... Games. That's all they are, if you want to see it that way:D

Controllers are better than me, at my job, atm. Which is basicly why I stopped playing my main :D

Controllers are just at good at using my primary as I am, and they get nice working primary sets, where I get a secondary powerset that does 66% of Blaster damage for 25% more end. Sorry to keep on whinging about it... but it sucks :p

Oh, and that fact that I couldn't solo more than two whites at once pissed me off a bit, too :)

it's all bout how you build your char.
my healer can't solo anything but a single white either, yet there's nothing that can heal as good. just like a defender can never be as good as CCing as a controller.

That's the problem - the only Defender spec that is better at something than another archetype is Empathy.

The Controller secondaries do the same as my primaries, and my secondaries are a higher cost, less damage dealing version of the Blaster primaries - meaning no one wants me/us in a group... and I can see why.

But, I'm going to shut up now... because I'm just whining atm :D

But you are the only char that can do BOTH. Blasters can't heal, CC or buff for jack, and controllers do even less damage than you. The CC/Ranged Defender class is a compromise... not as good as either at their specialisation (and something would be seriously fucked if they were) but better than either at their weaknesses. That's the price of versatility.

There's a lot more to a good group than damage, just as there is more to a good sports team than the guy who scores the points.

my reasoning behind not playing a controller is,

1) a tanker can do your job in a group better than you can :p

2) you will be the worst char possible as far as soloing goes. Maybe this changes after 32+ but still :).........., eatch to his own tho :p

It is true, to an extent, that tankers remove the need for a controller. However the changes to "Burn" on the test server should see a new found importance to grouping a controller: to hold the mobs in the "Burn".

There is also some word that Invulnerability tankers will be nerfed slightly ... which has to make sense; one of my friends on Justice can provoke a whole floor of white-orange mobs in a mission and stand there merrily provoking them whilst AE blasters do their thing.

It can't be right that she hardly takes a scratch from all that!!

As for controllers, I have got mine to 27 now and I love him. Admittedly Illusion can solo respectably (particularly when pets are ready) but he is far more group-friendly and desired in a group than my defender ever was.

Counting down to level 32 and the Phantasm!

my 2 'mains' are both controllers. they cant solo as well as other chars but for me the fun is in not how many/what level mobs i can take on and the speed of xp, but the fun i get while doing it. id much prefer to only be able to take on 2 whites using tactics and a variety of powers, than being able to whack a group of yellows or oranges by just throwing high damage attacks (no offense to blasters, i know ye guys need to think too, just that controllers/defenders have bigger brains :p )

too busy the past while to play, looking forward to kicking off again. anyone hear anything on the update? and also, it seems that the update is geared toward 40+ players, or am i mistaken?

tbh, id kinda prefer to see the small bits and bobs still not implemented in the game finished before a full-blown update. e.g. the information stations and for example, in the MAGI section of the hall in AP, theres information signs over the various items in the room that when you cursor over, you get a blue hand, but no info when clicked. would be nice for these to be filled in as it would add to the back story and immersion (or is that with an 'e'). other things like a better lfg system and such would be nice also.

/random mind wandering finished

i'm a lv 33 Illu/kin controller
well.....Phantasm is great, yes i can finaly solo a red Crey Protector without running ( kk i need to use all my pets, decoys and phantasm , but hey i soloed him :p)
now ...
At lv 30+ it seems i cant find any grps anymore , everyone is soloing( yes it was also like that before the "nerf grp " patch)
i thought i would play this game untill WoW arrives, but i'm bored already...
some will say , yea you leveld to quick , you missed all the debt , storylines , ect ...

this game is just a lv grind till lv 40 , PVP will be out after WoW arrives

so i dont know if i should still activate my account

bah ....

I dumped my emp/dark defender for same reasons. Found him bit boring. I gotta agree, that after trying an emp defender, I would've rather made a controller with emp secondary now if I wanted to be a healer. Might not be 100% as effective, but it's more fun... for me anyway.

Wonder how well Force Field defenders would be in damage control. Also one fun defender I tried was Stormcalling / Lightning. But anyway, there's other options than the classic healer for defenders.

If you aren't looking to make a new char, you could always check other options to do/contribute in battle than shooting DDs (and comparing them to blaster ones:D )... get tactics powers +acc +def +dam or such to boost your teams actions in combat.

love my emp defender personally, more so then my blaster.
sometimes it feels like I'm playing whack-a-mole with health bars, and I don't see fuck all of a battle but that only means I'm needed (falls asleep yet again while tagging along with Danya and Sarum :p )
and that being needed is exactly what makes it so much fun for me.
the team would do fine with a scrapper instead of that blaster we took or whatever, but I often know that the moment I quit they can forget about going on because I'm constantly pulling people out of red.

My 'main' is a level 20+ invul tanker and she cant do that without being healed or using dull pain, and i got all the ability's in the invul tree :D

But we can't blast. It's pretty pointless having it at the moment - it takes half of my bar to kill a normal white con, and that doesn't leave much for all my toggles, debuffs etc.

At the moment, we're like controllers without a primary powerset.

All I want is for my secondary powerset to be useful :p - it doesn't have to be anywhere near as good as Blaster's... just good enough to warrant using now and again.

'lo,

I'm quoting from the updates page here:

Reduced the END cost of Defender Blast powers.
I guess Defenders did need some love, my defender has been doing pretty ok, I'm an END hog but I can take a single orange if I play it carefully (also depends on whether it's a minion/lieutenant/boss, type of damage, etc.). But the dark/dark combo has a lot of damage dealing stuff, and most of it is ACC debuff, too...

Eeeks:

Increased Provoke Recharge Time from 3 to 10 seconds. Also, Provoke no longer Auto Hits (It currently does not take ACC Enhancements, but this will be corrected in the next patch).

Yup, I had to work abit harder as a tank lastnight.
It still is very good, it's not uber as it was, but maybe it was abit overpowered before.
I'll manage now, just need to be more awake when I fight in a team now.

Sounds like a reasonable nerf then. Tanking shouldn't just be a matter of sitting back and tapping a key. :p
Also gives a reason to get taunt as well as provoke - if provoke misses you can use taunt as a backup.

Yeah, that's what I tought too. Tho as I don't play a tanker, I'm not the expert. A skill that always hits everyone in range and cycles fast leaves no room for errors or skill. Sounds effective but dull. I think the new sounds bit better, gotta choose which path to go, how to/how much to enchance it. Maybe even some want to take the regular Taunt for the boost/backup now. Kinda silly that one of the main powers is found useless by most;)

Well I'll stop talking bout things I have no clue about, even though, I think that's what forums were created for after all :D

Like 99% of the ppl on the official boards :)

Well I was just waiting for something to happen to provoke cuz it was really stupid easy to hold agro.
And I played without it to L18 so I know how to hold agro without it, but that was very hectic :)

I suspect it was largely down to the way you approached the game. There are a lot of ex-DAoCers around and, for some, it clicks. They understand what makes CoH such a great game. Granted it can take a while, it took me a few days with various "hm, not much to do" before I understood. For others, it doesn't and mobs are still just walking xp, a la DAoC.
