Why are you using American skater's phrases, please don't say it's crossed the Atlantic.

The main reason I like roots manuva is because he accepts the fact he's english, and raps in his natural accent - unlike so many UK wannabe yank rap gimps

Funny you should mention that. Drum & Bass is pretty big in urban New York, and a lot of the Yank MC's rap over D&B with cockney accents because thats how it sounds on the bootleg tapes they get :)

There are good South London rappers who supported MOP recently. British hip-hop is definetly on the rise.

He spells his name diddydid because he is an amature and he couldn't make the lyrics rhyme anyother way.

I have bought loads of rap albums recently, will go through them and post em all later.

Time to get some Mos Def on yo ass!

(from Mathematics)
Killin fields need blood to graze the cash cow
It's a number game, but shit don't add up somehow
Like I got, sixteen to thirty-two bars to rock it
but only 15% of profits, ever see my pockets like
sixty-nine billion in the last twenty years
spent on national defense but folks still live in fear like
nearly half of America's largest cities is one-quarter black
That's why they gave Ricky Ross all the crack
Sixteen ounces to a pound, twenty more to a ki
A five minute sentence hearing and you're no longer free
40% of Americans own a cell phone
so they can hear, everything that you say when you ain't home
I guess Michael Jackson was right, "You Are Not Alone"
Rock your hardhat black cause you in the Terrordome
full of hard niggaz, large niggaz, dice tumblers
Young teens and prison greens facin life numbers
Crack mothers, crack babies and AIDS patients
Young bloods can't spell but they could rock you in PlayStation
This new math is whippin motherfuckers ass
You wanna know how to rhyme you better learn how to add
It's mathematics.

Re Perplex: Yeah Roots Manuva is pretty cool. What do you reckon about Aspects? Very UK. I think their first album is called "Correct English" to boot.

Although he's SHITE now, go listen to Nas's first album called "Illmatic" - very intelligent lyrics.

Also, try an outfit called "Jedi Mind Tricks" - amazing lyrics, all meaningful, all well thought out, all with a message

In fact, I'd happily call Jedi Mind Tricks the most intelligent rap outfit ever, with even more 'message' to them than Public Enemy

Code:
Burn Hollywood Burn
Jackson - Hardy - Shocklee - Sadler - Ridenhour
CHUCK D:

Burn Hollywood burn I smell a riot
Goin' on first htey're guilty now they're gone
Yeah I'll check out a movie
But it'll take a Black one to move me
Get me the hell away from this TV
All this news and views are beneath me
Cause all I hear about is shots ringin' out
So I rather kick some slang out
All right fellas let's go hand out
Hollywood or would they not
Make us all look bad like I know they had
But some things I'll never forget yeah
So step and fetch this shit
For all the years we looked like clowns
The joke is over smell the smoke from all around
Burn Hollywood burn

ICE CUBE:

Ice Cube is down with the PE
Now every single bitch wanna see me
Big Daddy is smooth word to muther
Let's check out a flick that exploits the color
Roamin' thru Hollywood late at night
Red and blue lights what a common sight
Pulled to the curb gettin' played like a sucker
Don't fight the power ... the mother fucker

BIG DADDY KANE:

As I walk the streets of Hollywood Boulevard
Thinin' how hard it was to those that starred
In the movies portrayin' the roles
Of butlers and maids slaves and hoes
Many intelligent Black men seemed to look uncivilized
When on the screen
Like a guess I figure you to play some jigaboo
On the plantation, what else can a nigger do
And Black women in this profession
As for playin' a lawyer, out of the question
For what they play Aunt Jemima is the perfect term
Even if now she got a perm
So let's make our own movies like Spike Lee
Cause the roles being offered don't strike me
There's nothing that the Black man could use to earn
Burn Hollywood burn

Check out the last verse especially

Just been flicking through some Wu-Tang lyrics on this site. Hey, 'Triumph' might not be political but it is poetry:

Olympic torch flaming, we burn so sweet
The thrill of victory, the agony, defeat
We crush slow, flamin deluxe slow
For, judgment day cometh, conquer, it's war
Allow us to escape, hell glow spinning bomb
Pocket full of shells out the sky, Golden Arms
Tune spit the shitty Mortal Kombat sound
The fateful step make, the blood stain the ground
A jungle junkie, vigilante tantrum
A death kiss, catwalk, squeeze another anthem
Hold it for ransom, tranquilized with anesthetics
My orchestra, graceful, music ballerinas
My music Sicily, rich California smell
An axekiller adventure, paint a picture well
I sing a song from Sing-Sing, sippin on ginseng
Righteous wax chaperone, rotating ring king

Nas still has some intelligence in his rap, I still rate I Am above Illmatic although I will probably flamed for even suggesting that.

Stillmatic is a solid album, but he just doesnt have that something anymore.

Look to Canibus for intelligent lyrics,or Dead Pres -very political.

How should I know I don't listen to that shite, stoopid.

There is no such thing as intelligent lirics. Just like there's no such thing as intelligent rappers, or indeed intelligent Americans.

Rap music is on the whole, very shite. Once you've heard one "i fucked this bitch then shot some niggas then snorted some crack" song you've pretty much heard em all.

Which is why early Rap (the stuff that actually had a message) is fab and modern stuff (90% of it) is shite.

P Diddy is a blasphemor against everything that Rap once was.

Incidently ignus, shut up.

Hey its my thread I don't have to shut up.

Incidently who here actually believes that 2 pac is really dead, every time I hear that "his mother found a load of unrecorded stuff he did before he died" I smell bullshit.

Heh, it amuses me when people question things like that... Ali G took the piss out of it in his recent book :p

its a possibility, I'd do it if I could, new life with loads of cash probably tax free.

I love it when people see Ali G as a real person. Sacha whatever his second name is has created some other funny characters as well.

Ali G became stale a long time ago, and Borat was always far from amusing.

Incidently, why would 2 pac (thoroughly shit name, IMO) need to start a new life to acquire lots of cash tax free? I'm pretty sure he had enough when he was alive.

I sincerely hope he is dead - it means that eventually they will stop discovering 'secret stashes' of 'unreleased material' and we'll start hearing LESS of his utterly fucking wank 'music'

Partly true... although I think it's more likely the fact that he stole the chorus from KRS-One and changed the letters...

Rap wise, you can't beat NWA, Beastie Boys, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Notice a pattern? They're all relatively 'old school'. The aptly named puff daddy has fuck all on any of them.
