Another discussion forum I use do not allow any youtube links to copyrighted material in case the FBI or whatever end up closing down their forum. Hell you cant even just give the name of the piece of material on you tube, never mind the link!! Are they being silly or is this correct?

Yes, they're being silly. Do they also place restrictions on imagery? Sounds? Avatars? Smilies?

Sounds like a shit forum.

nah no restrictions on smilies images etc, just the you tube stuff.

They are adamant their forum can get sued for linking to copyrighted material. I just think they are tossers

In theory you could get sued, just the way torrent sites get sued for aiding the distribution of copyrighted material.
In practice they're more likely to get a stroppy letter from some lawyers saying take it down or else we'll sue.

The posting of copyrighted material (examples being music videos, film extracts, Premier League footage from TV ) is likely prohibited on most forums.

The posting of some fat guy sitting in front of his PC singing the numa numa song is OK.

WWE need to worry more about hiring some decent script writers and talent than they do about Youtube ;)

The simple issue is that it is easier and quicker for them to ban it totally than end up monitoring it, which in reality is the very issue that'll face youtube etc.
