Seeing as rock is pretty wide label and people have posted some other stuff...

The Haunted - awesome thrash

Mercenary - some sweet danish melodic death/power metal :D

Cancer Bats - really good, raw, really riffy hardcore

I saw them live at shepards bush, the first 10 min guitar solo.. fine they all do it
The 5th 10 min guitar solo, we left
Plus there is only so long you can extend the ace of spades before it gets fu**ing annoying
fortunately the opening bands were awesome so it wasn't a total loss

haha totally agree.. motorhead had like 2 good songs, most just sounded like they were trying to be catchey like ace of spades but failing ;O

Seeing as every metal band has been mentioned already even though he asked for rock I guess I'll add the one missing, Metallica.

can't really help you as everything i might suggest has been suggested but i didn't read the whole thread as i gots stuff to do! so i'll just suggest you have a go at some lynard skynard (free bird is teh w00t) jimi hendrix all along the watchtower etc etc and jefferson airplane somebody to love is some good shit that will make you feel like your back in Nam!

omg and if you want something totally amazing (not rock but just make you melt) try albatross by fleetwood mac after all your rocking out you may need to come down :)

This is exactly why i didn't post anymore on this thread...i mean come on!

And they whine to me if i call house/trance techno...

What do you mean?

What do you mean what do i mean?

People get all pissy around these parts when you call some sub-semi-genre of techno techno instead of drum and cymbal.

Or, about this thread having more metal then rock on it?

I was asking myself exctly the same question. Why do people post all those metal bands?
Metal != Rock
Although I find it hard to name contemporary Rock bands that deserve the name.

I guess it could be that in the "old" days, something like mötörhead, sammy hagar etc, were rock bands and there wasn't that much metal, and now people post bands that seem in the same category. Rock has blended into metal i guess, these days, not much rock&rolling around in peoples minds.

Though now that i think of it, sammy hagar might be considered more metal then rock too.

Do you mean people should post about Bill Haley and his Comets then? I'd call metal a sub genre of rock, so that's why I wondered what you meant. I'm not one of those who'd get my knickers in a twist if someone called different kinds of techno just that, techno, either so.. I think we're on the same page in the end.

Bill Haley and his comets, yes, more then Metallica or The Haunted. Even if Bill Haley ain't exactly what tris- asked.

Metal and rock are in the similar genre, but i'd think there's a distinct difference still.

We're on the same page, just on different lines :D

Something like, iron maiden COULD be considered rock'ish, but again, when compared to say, AC/DC(from the populars), it's clearly metal.

It's about the guitar and song in my mind. If there's that crack "metal" sound in the guitar, it's not really rock'n'roll.

I have seen Motorhead 3 times in recent years and have never seen them do lengthy guitar solos, 1 song gets a lengthed guitar solo in it and theres a drum solo also (which is awesome coz Mikkey Dee is great) but thats it and nothing that last anywhere near 10 mins. But hey, never let the facts get in the way of moan :)

Lemmy has said he would rather not do Ace Of Spades but says that if you were going to see Motorhead for the 1st time and they didn't play it you would be disappointed.

Thats because there aren't really many bands that sound like Motorhead.

Hmm, Motorhead style?

Judas Priest, Deep Purple stuff too? Like classic rock or what...

Can give Buck Cherry a try actually, they're fairly new but quite good.

You're probably better looking at those daft rock anthem compilations and picking bands out from there really..

yes you will most likely enjoy the earlier metal and/or blues influenced hard rock - black sabbath, judas priest, ac/dc, van halen, maybe some early megadeth and metallica. you have to try if you prefer stuff thats softer than most motorhead songs (ac/dc, sabbath) or heavier (anthrax, venom, slayer, sepultura, megadeth etc) and go from there.

Not far wrong there. Closest I guess you'd come is digging up some decent NWOBHW comp (new wave of british heavy metal, fuck knows why it got such a long ).

They can't sound like Motorhead, cos they all women, but always think of Girlschool when Motorhead mentioned. Around at the same time, toured together iirc, and recorded stuff like 'Please Don't Touch' together. Race With the Devil rocks also. Well, don't sound that different, balls out stripped down rock.

some dirty/sleezey rock bands:

pissed jeans - MySpace.com - Pissed Jeans - PAULINE, South Carolina - Rock - www.myspace.com/pissedjeans

lovvers - MySpace.com - LOVVERS - Nottingham, UK - Korean Pop / Psychedelic / Black Metal - www.myspace.com/letscommunicate

brutal knights - MySpace.com - Brutal Knights - Toronto, CA - Punk / Progressive / Jam Band - www.myspace.com/brutalknights

about all i can think of at the moment as it's not usually my kind of thing, though i dig these bands. if anything else comes to mind i'll post it.

stuff like this at least seems more like that whole motorhead raucous feel than any of the metal that has been posted. admittedly, i didn't read the whole thread mind.
