u should be alright most cats just like a quiet covered corner they feel safe in an do it all on their own.tho having said that my old cat (had bout 4litters of kittens in all thro her life) came an got me if i strayed to far on her last litter.just didnt wanna be alone that time for some reason but it did seem a very long birth(time between kittens etc).so just keep an eye out n check all is well.

my cats last litter popped them out on my bed rofl, i woke up and she was on my bed like she was giving birth to a horse or something, so i got some clean towels and her dog bed:D and she was quite happy me being there
depends if your cat likes you or not, but generally they let the person that feeds them know they need them:p

agreeing with teh seel, they'll handle it by themselves and eat the rest of it... but remember it can go grossly wrong and she can split open and the place will reek of death when you come home from work where 4 little kittens has died while trying to walk away from the mom half split up and with gore all around

good luck, marc i never thought you do that, in my opinion, you'd play rugby with it :p

I love cats but I sorely have to agree with this comment.

Cats = Most arrogant pets ever but they're lovely. :p

tbh the whole thing of "they do it in the wild every day, leave em to it" makes me cringe, yes they do do it in the wild, on their own everyday but as some have pointed out things can go wrong, find out roughly when the due date is and make sure your around at the time my friend had kittens regularly (well.... not her personally lol) about 1 or 2 litters a year (not from same cat btw) and if she cant be there i get the job which is lovely but it is hard, if the cats a new mum then she might need a hand.

also after theyre born you know sometimes they wont feed so go to vets and get some small (teeny) syringes and cat baby formula (vet should provide), try to restrain yourself the urge of jacking up on high class skag its best to have it just incase you need to hand feed them, aaaand might want to raid your mums kitchen see if she has any small scales because youll need to weigh them daily to make sure theyre putting on enough weight, i cant say how much because i don know the breed but just make sure its going up not down (again vet should be able to help) and a few hot water bottles or heat pads (you know the ones you can microwave) wrap em in loads of towels so the bablets wont get scoulded and just so they let enough heat out to keep the lil tykes warm...

oh and dont do what i did when i was a lill'un...... its only the mother cat that has to lick the kittens, you dont need to do it.

i was very young at the time :(

no they dont taste like chicken.

It was living in next door but ones garage for a week, just cowering there. The lady couldnt take it in because she already had a cat that didnt like females so I took a fall for the team. Its dead timid though. Just lies behind the setee, only comming out to eat or use its litter tray.

Cheers for all the replies, feel a bit better about it all now, was kinda shitting myself at the thought of it giving birth!

She'll get use to you, if she's been living wild, she'll be scared stiff and will just take some time to feel safe.
Make sure you've got something for her to play with though if you're out at work otherwise she'll be bored and that's when animals can be destructive.

It's good that she's using a litter tray though, my first cat I had never went outside because I lived on a very busy road and she was fine at home when I was at work cos she had things to play with.

If you can afford one, the best things are those combo sleeping/scratching things which have the different places to sleep on and lie in as well as the pole for scratching and a couple of balls - one with a bell inside is really good.

Have you thought about keeping one of the kittens as company for the mother? Cats can get very lonely during the day by themselves, and it costs a negligible amount more to keep two cats than one.

Incidentally, I love the way the adverts at the bottom are for dating in St Helen's and double glazing in Merseyside!

RSPCA said they will take the kittens which saves me drowning them, but wtf do I do when the cat is having these kittens? Do I just leave the cat to its own devices? Is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable?
Ching ching... sell em £25 each don't look a gift horse in the mouth

Exceptionally good idea Naetha :)

Cats are always happier when in a pair and I did the same with my cat's second litter (the father of both litters had been killed by the fecking vet - long and painful story) and kept one of them.

ooh ooh 2 words bud pet insurance!

its vital tbh (unless your loaded) because if something nasty does happen at leats you know you can definately get the treatment for her (and future bab if you keep one) any hoo loads of places offer it, ask your vet about it its really important

(p.s my guinea pigs said they want a kitten can they have one please and they have their own house and would really like a pet and the pea bug they were training ran away, thx *weeeeet weeet weeeeet*)

Indeed pet insurance is very important, more so on a cat as the little buggers do what they want half the time.
The 2 doggies I used to have would have cost me a small fortune without the petplan we had set up.
E.G Niah my old black staffie stood on a wasp.....£20 for appointment and £22 for a anti-inflammatry(sp), but petplan paid for it, and as far as I can remember there was no excess to pay but don't hold me to that.
