Its simple really.
Smoking is bad for your health and the health of people around you. The government has decided that it is such a health hazard that rather than leaving things down to consumer choice, it has to step in to protect people. Thus the ban.

By the way, does anyone have some proof that pubsmoke has 'caused some deaths? Isn't the second hand smoke thingies been from people who live in smoke basicly.

Just done a little google search for "passive smoking causes cancer" and found this:

Passive smoking involves exposure to the same numerous carcinogens and toxic substances which cause lung cancer in smokers. This implies some risk of lung cancer from exposure to secondhand smoke.
More than 50 studies have been published on lung cancer risk in people who have never smoked but who have been exposed to tobacco smoke, especially spouses of smokers. Most studies show an increased risk, particularly for persons with higher exposures. The overall finding is an increased risk of lung cancer in spouses of smokers of 20% in women and 30% in men. Non-smokers exposed at the workplace have a 12-19% increased risk of lung cancer.

So there's maybe...what...one night a week that one goes out clubbing?

Where, they MIGHT inhale passive smoke for, well, one cigarettes worth :)

Just trying to say that the "your smoke in my pub kills me" point isn't valid, but the "i don't like it" is the only real reason.

And just for argumentss sake, let's use the wording "might be harmful".

Whats the argument for people at the workplace? "I work here to earn a living, not to add to the chance that I will get a terminal disease"

Thats quite a fucked up point of view if you think the only reason this ban is coming in is because people are saying "I don't like it" it quite significantly increases the chance of getting a terminal disease..thats quite a bit different to "I don't like it"

Most work places in Denmark are smoke free already.. Smokers go outside most of the time to have their smoke or they have a certain room designed for smoking, but that's very few..

A work place should be smokefree zone imo, and I say that as a smoker

Yes, for the workers this is an improvement. If you don't smoke that is. I never said it wasn't. I was talking about the customer base.

For the rest taking the "you're damaging my lungies with it" is a bit of an overstatement.

In finland, bars are the only place where you can smoke on a workplace, everywhere else, it's outside.

But on the flipside...i know plenty of workers in bars who hate if this comes through, just because they say dealing with stupid drunktards is bad enough, doing it nonstop without a cig is murder and the stress alone could be more hazardous. They don't have time for breaks in most places.

anyhoop, don't twist my words to make me sound like i'm "unsensitive" towards the workers and who this REALLY effects.

By the by...i can understand why people hate smoking in bars, i can understand that it's an improvement. But it's for YOU, not the smokers. What wouldn't kill you is to see the smokers side of this thing and notice how f*cked up it is. Smokers are so laid back anyway that they won't be killed by it, but where will it stop.

First it was the meat. Then it's the smokes. Next? Games? Afterall....

Seel I can understand the anger towarda having the privilege taken away so suddenly but apart from that I can't side with smokers at all...

smoking = bad for more than just the smoker.

Basically, that's all it boils down to and no amount of arguing will stop that being a fact.
