Serves him right - kill all smokers!

Oh wait, they're doing that themselves ;)

On a less militaristic note, I can't wait until the smoking ban comes in in July. Will be nice to go to a pub for a drink for half an hour and not have to come home stinking like an ashtray, put all my clothes in the wash and have a shower immediately, let alone being able to breathe for the next couple of days.

Tbh that's one of the things I enjoy the most.. Call up a few guys and girls and go to the local, have a pint or two while enjoying my cigs! I find it cosy and something that's just a part of my every day life. I don't see my addiction to cigs as much of a physical addiction as a mental addiction..

When the smoking ban arrives I'll be missing sitting in a pub/café just drinking my beer/coffee while talking to some of my friends in a relaxed enviroment while having a smoke. Ofc I understand the ppl who doesn't smoke, but I'll be missing it any who

Well, i hope they never bring it(yeah right) in finland...but sadly, just like with the f*cking vegetarians, i'm on the losing team... :(

First the veggies took away good foods(everything has salad and a good steak is under a rock these days) now the anti-ciggies take away more of the enjoyment from a barnight.

Bullies. Same PC brigade as the don't say the N word and games are bad school spews out...

Build your own bars goddamnit!

the only problem with a smoking ban in pubs etc. is that you will smell the nise smell of urine :D the smoke covered that smell and other body odors :D

Yeah and you'll still get the smokesmelling clothes etc when you enter and leave through the smokecloud produced by the people outside.

I live in Scotland so already live under a smoking ban. Must say it is so much better and I hate going to pubs/resturants in England now. I can go out and 5minutes later find that I feel like I haven't washed in a month.

Resturants are the best though. You would go out for a meal and sit in "non-smoking" section, but no matter how expensive a place you in the smoking section would just be in the next walkway and you would have the smoke blowing across the room. I got no problem with smokers as long as it not done right in my face, but when you are eating dinner it is horrid. So I absolutely love not having that problem anymore :)

Just love the fact that the anti-smoking brigade always seem to operate under the delusion that they're going to live for fucking ever. Enjoy life you cnuts :p

I'm less fussed about the affect on my health than I am about the affect on my personal wellbeing - I do not like smelling of smoke. Regardless of the fact that I have asthma and my lungs shrink like an erection in an icebath in the presence of cigarette smoke, I don't like the constant stink, especially if I'm eating.

As for those that are saying that they'll miss hanging around in pubs smoking with their friends, how about hanging around in pubs with their friends? :touch:

For me enjoying life doesn't involve yellow teeth, fingernails, nasty breath, nasty taste if you're kissing a smoker, having that shitty smokers cough that sounds rough as fuck.

I'll stop there :p

Been smoking for 7 years on and off, but I have never seen any yellow teeth and fingernails nor that smokers cough. That's something chainsmokers get.

And a smokers breath is really not worse then the foul breath of a drunk.

I have to admit, even as a smoker, I can't stand someone who's smoking in a place were no one smokes at all.

yeah wtf? do you actually know anyone that smokes??

heyzuse christos! ive been smoking for longer than some of you have been toilet trained and i do not have yellow teeth or nails, my breath is no worse in the morning than most peoples and tbh having been with guys who dont smoke but drink lots of coffee or eat lots of junk food tbh they had serious morning breath issues narstey.

I don't tend to smoke in public but thats not out of consideration for anyone else its because i prefer to be sat at home on me sofa nice and comfey and enjoy my smoke. People have a plethera of ways of irritating the flip out of me but i don't demand that they stop what theyre doing i just choose not to be where they are (namely pubs/bars etc). The july smoking ban will not affect me in the least but i am opposed to it because i think drinking alcohol is far more dangerous and anti social than smoking but people find this acceptable.

i'm not even going to bother going in to the "they should have smoking places and non smoking places so that people have a choice" because the arguements been settled and its futile because theyll let people drink themselves to death and harm innocent people in the process, they'll let people eat themselves (or worse abuse their kids by feeding them shit) to death and suck up NHS money because they cant stop drinking or eating (liver transplant anyone? oh im sorry the last one just went to a celebrity alcoholic)

but you have a fag and you might aswell grow a toothbrush moustache, don some womens underwear and start doing a silly walk because you are evil incarnate.

go get pissed and do some drugs and leave the smokers alone tbh.

This could be said about every thing people do that others don't like.

Stop driving cars, it's proven to harm the enviroment and hurts my lungs.

Stop being a vegetarian, meat is proven to be the original source of our brain growth, you're hurting the future of mankind.

And so on...just pisses me off when people try to rule my life. If you don't like smoke, don't go to places where people smoke. Go to a coffe shop or some other hippie joint like that. But that ofcourse would mean changing YOUR life, and we couldn't have that now could we.

Yes but smoking is more direct. Because YOU smoke in the same vicinity as I am breathing, that affects ME directly.

If you smoke in your own home, that's fine - doesn't bother me at all, although I think many smokers would be surprised by how much their houses smell and they don't notice it (father in law smokes - he doesn't notice his house smelling of smoke at all, yet I notice it as soon as I walk in the door).

As for smoking in a public place, I think that's just rude tbh, but people in general (not smokers specifically) are usually too selfish to stop what they're doing because it affects someone else if they believe they have the "right" to do it. Would you smoke in the bakery/delicatessen/fresh food part of a supermarket? Then why are you prepared to smoke where people are eating and drinking?

Saying that stuff like alcohol etc is worse than smoking for affecting others is true if it's all done to excess. If you consider that most people who drink do it in moderation, and this doesn't usually affect anyone else unless they're stupid enough to drive while drunk (yes, believe it or not there is a crime worse than smoking in public...) that one drink will have much less of an effect than say one cigarette smoked next to me in a pub.

FYI - other than the first paragraph in response to Seel's quote, none of this is directed at specific people, just smokers in general, and the attitudes that they have (my father in law included).

sorry to seem harsh but thats a load of shit. you talk like we are the most selfish bitches in the universe. i wouldnt smoke around in a food store, because the food would then taste like shit.
i dont smoke around people eating because of two things -

1. its no longer legal to smoke in areas where hot food is served, they have to be smoke free. unless you choose a table in the smoking area, you wont ever (in england) be sat in a smokey environment trying to eat.

2. its horrible to try eat with someone blowing smoke at you. i dont like it so im not gonna do it to someone else.

:)

Try eating food in most pubs - unless they have separate smoking rooms (fairly rare in my experience) or a very good extraction system (fairly rare but becoming more common) then the smoke almost always wafts its way over to where you're trying to eat your meal. Regular smokers may not notice it, but non-smokers do. And for those that say "well don't try and eat in a pub then" where else am I gonna get pie peas and chips for a fiver? :D

2. its horrible to try eat with someone blowing smoke at you. i dont like it so im not gonna do it to someone else.

Even if you're not eating - if you drink in a pub to taste the drink rather than as a means to an end, then, again it just spoils it. And same disclaimer applies - where else am I going to get a pint of well kept, well pulled real ale other than in a pub?

Again, I'm not trying to be aggressive, but it pisses me off when some smokers feel they have the right to do whatever they like, whenever they like, with no regard to how people who don't share their view point feel. How hard is it *not* to smoke in a pub? As hard as it is to not pick my nose and eat the bogeys? As hard as it is not to fart over other peoples' food?

It really improved the "going out" experience in Scotland, even most hardcore smokers agree! After 6 months, try going to some country that still allows smoking in bars, and not think "Its so much nicer back home". The first two weeks are funny as you get to watch entire groups of people going cold turkey when its raining since they dont want to go outside :)

It's horrible to do anything with someone blowing smoke at you.

Reading back through this thread...a lot of smokers trot out this 'OMG OMG NON-SMOKERS THINK THEY ARE IMMORTAL' bollocks, and it's just that - bollocks (and Bill Hicks did it way funnier). Non-smokers don't pretend to be somehow immortal, but they know they'll live longer and healthier if they're not forced to breathe smokers' personal exhaust fumes and they'll be able to enjoy life a lot more if they're not forced to be surrounded by a cloud of cancerous shit. The same holds true for the smokers themselves, too.

In a hundred years' time - at which point every living smoker and non-smoker alike will be dead, shock horror revelation! - we'll look back at the time when smoking happened everywhere with the same "How the hell did that ever happen?" bewilderment that we currently feel when we look at bear-baiting, slavery, and buying N-SYNC records.

neatha: if the pub has poor extraction facilities, i dont think thats the smokers fault. the pub makes 2 area, one to eat the other to smoke. if i smoke there, its because im told i can. i dont do it purposley to make people sick and nor do i stand near the area. if people are eating and the smoking section is only sepereated by a waist height sign, id not smoke. because its obviously not nice. i try to get as far a way as possible or not smoke at all.

its not hard not to smoke in pubs. sometimes my friends sit in the no smoking section for hours. doesnt bother me, i simply dont smoke till we go outside to get someplace else.

i think its called sarcasm

Nah. A lot of smokers have this attitude of "we're free to smoke; you're free to go somewhere else." It's a double-standard. Their freedom is more important than others' freedom.
