start > run > msconfig

Look through startup and disable everything that you _know_ you don't need. If you have AV/Firewall, leave those enabled.

Also, move this to tech section?

format then reinstall.... works for me cba to try 100 diff wannabe progs that dont work anyway. If i ever meet a spyware dude....

Antivir Guard is a nice and free virus prog.... havent got any infections after i started to use it. oh and if u use Norton get rid of it asap. make a few of the infections work even worse.... Great job norton :twak:

Got any names of the spyware? some can be removed fsat if u know where to go in your system.

Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware are pretty good, but far from perfect.
The only way to be completely safe of that crap is to just download stuff you can trust 100%. Make a clean resintall and as soon as that´s done, create a DVD image of your Windows partition (and burn it on DVD ofc). Keep this as a backup. Get a decent firewall and a good Virus scanner.

...and stop surfing pr0n ;)

Does it redirect you to a website? If so; which website? (There must be one central one)

Had a similar problem on my brothers computer, had so much spyware, malware and adware that the thing just locked up after a while.

Tried a multitude of different things to get rid of it - norton, adware, spybot S&D, AVG, not to mention trying to manually pick everything out using regedit and going through the lists on microsoft's website. changing MSconfig didnt seem to help either :(

only way I got rid of it in the end was backing up what my bro wanted (which was luckily not much) then wiping it.
