same as all war films that hollywood make :( every film its america vs the world. there is some americans who dont take notice of it though. i was talking to one in a game, he said a lot of americans believe it because they even get taught it at school. even their TV is all propaganda, according to americans it was only them who were in iraq, forget the SAS being there months before . also on their news, it said americans found saddam all by them selves with no help from anyone.
im not trying to pull this off topic, im just making a point that its always happens and still does, even about current affairs.

please, no one drag this into a thread about the war on iraq being right/wrong etc ;)

shit like this really pisses me off hope it gets cancelled or redone

maybe the yanks should stick to what they actually did during WW2 like nuke 100's of thousands of japanese oh wait that wouldnt make them look heroic would it...

actually, the opposite is true because Bush was trying to promote that he had other countries support. don't believe everything you read ;)

British troops are talked about almost daily. The lack of other members of the international community are commented about mainly due to the fact that we've stuck ourselves with an enormous bill for it all.

Carpet bombing Dresden and the fire storm that followed killed more people that one of the nukes did.

from that i assume your american, is that right?

i never read it anyway, i was told it by an american :p the american i spoke to said they send in the most troops "its all or nothing" (his words not mine) so they are allowed to say we did it all! although he didnt believe this was right, a lot of americans are stupid enough to think this way.

btw, i dont think it should be commented on about lack of support (another thing that annoys me :p), if one country wants to go to war then its their choice, not the rest of the worlds.

now i will stop before a mod comes and goes "omg flames closed".

BTW asha how is chipper talking crap? people tell the truth about americans so its crap, americans re-write history so its ok. (not say you said it was ok, u said it would be shit but this is how americans seem to think from another countys POV)

no no, you misunderstand... I mean that alot of ppl are pissed off that Bush charged in w/o much support from the international community and thus we are stuck with footing the bill - and it's a damn big bill tbh. By not much support I mean the # of countries that did not want to support this not the support from the countries that did.

I said making up shit is bad either way. I was referring to the last couple lines he posted about America in WWII, not to the sentiment about Hollywood. The line he posted is not true, the stuff about Hollywood is.

BTW

Hollywood is an entity onto itself and we Americans don't understand why the hell they do things either :)

I know we dropped two A bombs chipper. But the way you posted makes it sound like that was all we did and you convienently leave out all the issues behind that like the fact that we were bombed from a neutral state by the Japs. Nor do you mention the horrific island to island fighting that went on or the tactics used by the Japanese. Nor the attrocities that the Japanese commited in China, and SE Asia. Nor that almost half a million Americans died in WWII, many fighting to keep your country (and ours) free. You make it sound like we just went over to Japan and dropped some bombs for the fun of it.

between the two bombs, it's estimated at 200,000 people not counting the many Korean slaves there at the time
doesn't matter that it's not 1 million, it was a huge number of people
it's a complicated issue... glad I didn't have to make such a choice

Wanna bet that the brits would done the exact same thing if we had needed too tho carpet bombing most of the german citys tended to give a few civilian casualties aswell. Thing is if the yanks hadnt droped the bomb, there would prolly of needed to invade japan and im think the casualty rate would of been much, much bigger

hollywood and many americans glorify there part in WW2
i do not deny america helped us out during WW2 but they by no means insured victory america sat by and did nothing while hitler and his army blazed through europe
american's where happy to just sit there and do nothing only a handful gave a shit not until japan attacked pearl harbour did they wake up and do something these means the americans where then busy engaged in the pacific

however im not here to give a history lesson i understand many americans lost there lifes and i respect and honour them for fighting for what they knew was right

i posted one example to show that the americans where not the glory boys hollywood paints them i know about what america suffered and what everyone else suffered.
hollywood has no right to desecrate the memory of the many brave people who fought in the battle of britain english or otherwise to say that 1 person won the war is so far fetched its almost funny
and i assure you asha if the film was been made about 1 lone englishman i would still be very pissed off about it i understand artisitic licensing but this is offensive to europeans and the british.

davy maybe, maybe not we will never know but why did the americans pick such heavily populated areas not military targets ? im sure it was not an easy decision to make and asha i agree with you it is not a decision i could have made.

well britian did nothing til it was on their doorstep
being on the other side of the world, we weren't in the thick of it, no...
it wasn't a modern world so...

agree, and I can almost guarentee you that it will be a flop.
we're not stupid. we know it's bs.
the thing is that hollywood is just weird and there isn't much the average person can do about it other than not go to that kinda movie
It could be worse, Tom could do a British accent :p

Hollywood does tend to make Americans heros in things like Independence Day, but Hollywood -is- American and making movies for Americans. There is nothing stopping other countries from making their own stupid movies where they are the heros. However, taking a historical event and twisting it is wrong to me.

Not true. They declared war when Germany attacked Poland at the very start of the conflict, and were actively helping European countrys defending themselves against the Germans. Heard of the Mutual Assitance Treaty? The evacuation of Allied troops form Dunkirk? They also fought alongside the Norwegian army in my own country before they had to evacuate. Fact of the matter is that the Allies in Europe LOST the land war. Until Stalingrad and the Russian bear awoke. Nice going belitteling the British war effort. Who knows if the Americans had helped if it wasn't for the fact that Germany declared war on the US (not vice versa) because of their Axis alliance with Japan.

only cause tom cruise saved England

I didn't belittle England's war effort lol
I dunno if the US would have entered, I would like to think so.
Attacking Poland wasn't the start and all of Europe turned a blind eye to Germany for ages. My point wasn't that they are at fault but that you can't really blame the US for not entering a war halfway around the world in the 30s.
If you disagree, then fine.

Well America is always quick to enter a new conflict (or create one) in the latter half of the 20th century. Through fear of them being toppled as the largest econemy in the world their military needs funding, the only way they get that is through waging war on everyone. The shear incompetance shown by their own troops and leadership (bombing the chinese embassy because the only maps of the area they had were 10 years old through to shooting thier own and their allies airforce out of the sky) shown in war is only balanced by numbers and fire power.

The americans did help win world war2 towards the end but it was through European, and British comonwealth countries that we won the africa campaign, gather the inteligence needed (enigma, taken by the british, not americans as hollywood would have us believe) win the air war over britain and Europe, rescue of hundreds of thousands of soldiers at dunkirk.

Its a shame Americans are so brainwashed to believe what hollywood tells them, they should just fuck off from our history, its only because their only history is the genocide of the native americans and the huge slave trade that existed in America that they make such bullshit up.

This film and other American films pisses me off greatly but it is wrong to blame the American population for it even if they do fall for the bullshit. It is the filmmakers who should be ridiculed.

i agree with raven 100% apart from the slave bit, as england and many other european countries were trading slaves from africa to america :(

well most don't "believe" it tbh...
the impressions I got of WWII in school were the same I got from the English in England. It still amazes me that you blame "Americans" for such crappy movies when we have pretty much 0 say in the matter.

the genocide of the American Indian and African slave trade were started by Europeans, don't be ridiculous please.

yeah the slave trade was ourss, amongst the other things...
The British empire in its hay day was something to be proud of and yet ashamed of at the same time imo.
For every good deed we managed some astoundingly bad ones too...

0? If it wasn't for the fact that most americans are totally overcome with a patriotic fervour and a desire to see large explosions on the silver screen then hollywood probably wouldn't churn out crappy BS films like this; there wouldn't be any money in it for them.
