Hi guys

It seems Adobe has just acquired Macromedia for $3.4 billion to become part of Adobe Systems Incorporated. Macromedia has itself acquired smaller companies in the past, so Adobe's move makes for an even more dominant market position.

The effects to each group's product lines is unknown at this point, but the Macromedia brand will be disolved into Adobe at some point in the future as 'tigher integration' is pushed for (I'm guessing the same fate for Jasc's Paint Shop Pro following Corel's acquisition last year).

You can read more about it here, in a PDF wouldn't you know it ;) ... Adobe Macromedia FAQ.

One of the buzz terms for most end users will be closer integration between Adobe's PDF format and Macromedia's Flash format. Can't wait ;)

Kind Regards

Jonty

P.S. For the webdev techies amongst you, Adobe's popular SVG plugin will apparently be unphased by their acquistion of Macromedia's proprietary Flash format which the SVG standard, at a general level, competes with.
