Hello people,
Well its odd, I am at work and can only use windows software so please no cries of use a different browser. Series of events, knocked off all was well, came back up at midnight did the handover sorted some paper, web time
Launched IE (version six, I have just installed SP1 after the oddness, running win2k pro on a bog standard dell dimension pIII ) and noticed a new toolbar, thought nothing of it, till after an hour of browsing (work related sites I hasten to add ) an ad popped up/under, there was no warning, yahoo pop up blocker is running too by the way, so I click on the task bar to see whats come up and its a full page ad for some survey site (send us some money and we will let you know about paid surveys) this is full page no toolbars at the top nothing t indicate where it came from apart from in the body of the text. I close it and when my relief comes back to let me away for a cup of coffee and a fag ask him about the tool bar, he says yea I downloaded it I wanted the smileys. I will leave my reply up to your imagination.
So I Google for mywebsearch, during which another of these full page ads comes up, and follow the removal instructions, poof its gone. Wonderful think I and browse away merrily for the rest of the morning, till another one pops under. Now I think this id fucked up the toolbar is gone I have run adaware and Spybot, nothing. I look at the ad and its from one of the sites I had looked at whilst googling for a removal tool/instruction set. (noadware I think it was called but they wanted cash so I skipped the site.)
Run adaware and Spybot again, after checking there were no updates available, and nothing except the usual tracking cookies, I still need to run the virus scan, Trend Corporate jobbie, but I can't think of anything else.
A final wierdness happened this morning, I went for coffee, and when I come back the chap who lets me away was looking at some Brazillian newspaper site. As he goes to change back to the BBC News the speakers erupt with what sounded very much like a large crowd heard from a distance through a muffled microphone, and the click when you changed the window was not its usual crisp self but had a longer more muffled sound.
I have since been to the update site and done the IE6 SP1 update, so I ma hoping this may have cured the oddly behaving browser syndrome. One other thing that may or may not be of note, when I first clicked on freddyshouse this morning I had to log in usually I don't.
Well if you have got this far and it made any sense thanks for reading, any advice would also be well received.
