might be wrong, but i think mass and frictions does cancel eachother, just that the picture you get from a breaking car vs a breaking truck is wrong, as the friction-area of the car is not proportional to the area of the truck.
if the truck weights 10 times more then the car, and would have a 10times larger contactspace with the road, it would stop at the same time/length.
