Ive known of this kind of cartoons, never giving it a real chance - before now.

Just experienced a serie called "Avatar - The Last Airbender" and it's been a long time since I've been amused this much or just enjoyed a cartoon like this.

I highly advice people with, or without anime experience to watch this stuff.

P.s. If anybody know any series like this one please let me know - would like to see more of this kind.

fyi, thats the 3rd series, iirc... i have little knowledge for that series, but i think there's a 4th inc or aird... then they should run out of plot, but knowing producers, they'll come out with a 5,6,7th series, completely fucking up the series

I recently watched 'Black Blood Brothers' which is about two brothers who are vampires attempting to get into the 'special zone' which is a sanctuary for vampires. It's only 12 episodes or so and is really entertaining. (Also the ending theme is really nice).

best anime series ever: neon genesis evangelion.

i think i'm the only person in the world who thinks the studio gibli movies suck. i enjoyed spirited away and then the others just seem to be structurally the same, with very little interesting narrative and few new ideas.

Ohh and the Ghost in the shell, I've already seen - a few years ago - loved it but at the time I didnt really explore further into the world of anime.:twak:

Movies:

Akira (fucking rocks)
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust!
Princess Mononoke (generally Studio Ghibli movies are a really great experience to watch)

Some Studio Ghibli movie called something with "chihiro" - fucking weeeeird! :D

Series:

Wolfs Rain
Cowboy Bebop (fucking genious)
Hellsing
Berserk

I dont really like those 'cute' animes, they are a bit over the top. Better like it a bit, well not realistic, but when people act in a way you can relate, or when the movie/series has got some special feel about it.

Will add more to my list later :)

Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi, better known as spirited away.

Very nice little movie aswell :)

Made by Hayao Miyazaki, if he made it, it's usually worth watching :)

Well the general plot is that there is some young boy or girl that has to complete some sort of mission, or youre just following that person around and watching what happens to him/her. But thats quite a general plot for most movies aint it?

The story line of the movies are, to me at least, VERY different from one another.

I dunno.. maybe youve watched 3 movies that seemed alike from Ghibli, but they have made quite a few :)

Try watch Princess Monoke or w/e its called

yeah thats the title hehe, knew the sound of it in my head, but no fucking idea of how to spell it :>

Guess you just write japanese words as they sound? At least when using western letters

that really tickles me of, if its better known as spirited away - why post the japanese name? nobody fucking cares and those who do are fat anyway ;< (seriously tho, it just shows some kind of wannabe wiseass attitude and in the field of anime its just way over the top)

you fear anime snobbery? i can assure you that thats not something i do.
But i watch all my anime in japanese with english subtitles, so i get the japanese name.

Note that he asked about a movie named "Chihiro" something. Only the japanese title has Chihiro in it. Since it's Spirited away in english. And since Spirited away was mentioned earlier i figured he had only heard the japanese name, so i just noted that Spirited away was the same movie.

yeah well, thought of that after posting, forgot that the danish name is chihiro and the witches which is why crispy could of thought that (though he should of known the english name since thats the title of it when we watched it, subbed mind you)

i actually meant narrative in the sense of the way the story is told, the way it is constructed and so on. i think studio ghibli are very talented and they have certainly exploited a certain niche extremely well, i do find their work very samey. each to their own innit!

i watch a lot of films and do a lot of film criticism as part of my uni course (i'm training illustration but specifically production illustration - storyboarding, concept art, narrative construction essentialy; for the film and video game industries) so i guess i over-analyse some stuff and it does hold me back from enjoying some films.

a good parallel to draw for me, with studio ghibli, is alejandro gonzález iñárritu (http://imdb.com/name/nm0327944/) - he was hailed as a brilliant director and a pioneer of forward-thinking/post-modern narrative construction and film making in general when amores perros came out... but since then, his two other major films - babel and 21 grams - essential rehash the same ideas and it proves that one great idea does not a brilliant director make.

Manga owns you and you bloody know it.

:p

Also give a series called "Black Lagoon" a try, very very good.

I follow other stuff such as:

GantZ
D. Gray-man
Death Note (Even though I read the manga ages ago)
Getbackers
Last Exile
Ghost in the shell
ONE PIECE! (Dont be fooled by the art style, it's brilliant.)

Etc!

Naruto fillers set to finish mid-feb, Bleach manga arc has started also (And it's awesome, wait till you see whats coming up mwahahahahah!)
