i thought the wasps bit was incredible. The Wasp virus which makes the caterpillar defends the wasp larvaes once they break free of its body. Nature is so incredibly impressive!

btw i was reading a really interesting article in my butterfly conservation journal the other day, lemme go dig it out, hang on a sec...

here we go:

Sprout's revenge
Dutch scientists have foud that the Brussel sprout takes direct action if threatened by Large White butterflies. When large whites lay eggs on a leaf, the plant produces chemicals attracting a tiny parasitic wasp Trichogramma brassicae. The wasp's larvae feed inside the eggs killing the host [article taken from "Butterfly" issue 99, p. 7]


hows that eh? also I remember seeing a thing about how flat topped acasca trees defend themselves if a giraffe starts snacking on them the acacia lets out a pheremone that alerts the other trees in the line and they all release a chemical which makes the leaves toxic.
