Animal cruelty are current punishments enough?

BBC NEWS | Wales | North East Wales | Couple 'let dog starve to death'

Was just reading this article where, this couple had split up and had basically left their three dogs to starve to death. One of them died but fortunately two survived.

Now my point is this; Their punishment is only £800 in costs, two months imprisonment and they weren't allowed to keep any animals for 5 years. Is this really enough?

I'll start off with the final punishment; Not allowed to keep animals for only 5 years? Surely this should be for life - they've shown they can't look after animals and therefore their privilege of being able to look after animals should be removed for LIFE.

£800 in costs! A guy was fined £500 not too long ago for leeching of someones unsecured fucking wireless internet?! While these two sick fucks let their dogs rot and die in a shed, no doubt putting up with weeks of heartbreaking whining!!

Two months imprisonment... if I were to leave my child in a shed without feeding it for a month I'm sure I'd get a few more days than 2 months. Although, blah, blah, they're not a humanbeings it still shows a lack of respect for life and an inability to look after it. It disgusts me that these people can get away with basically a slap on a wrist for torturing and tormenting these poor animals.

This lack of regard shows that they are incapable of looking after life, and in my opinion should be denied custody of any children they have or have in the future. In the best interests of the children.

Discuss.

not really but sadly our system is about rehabilitating and educating, not punishing.

Well, it's an animal as much as the next one.

You eat pork? Sheep? Cow?

Anyhoo, that aside...the laws are so "lame"(which i don't believe), to protect those incidents also, where it's simply not that clear cut animal abuse.

Say an accident, some things happen etc which would be "lessening" issues, but you get a crap judge.

I can see how "animal lovers" would think it's not enough, and i'd personally shoot a person then a dog(if forced), and think cruelty to dogs and such is just wrong(if taken as pets and not bred for meat), but there are reasons.

Well, that's the problem you face when you pet animals. You make them dependant on you, if you are not there to serve them they die. So keeping animals as pet is actually pretty cruel.

So I'd say death penalty to these motherfuckers.

... these people prove that they can't even provide the basic care for animal. I think they should be punished by revoking there care to any child or animal until they can prove that they can cope.

Cows don't tend to be tortured and starved before they are killed, and besides that has nothing to do with the topic.

Thanks.

However, I agree with the rest of your post, I too would cry over a dying dog rather than some african baby starving. That may be fucked up morals.

But pets are true innocents, we forced them into this life basically and now its our responsibility to look after them. They depend on us, they give us their trust and certain individuals just disregard it and abuse it.

Yeah, cows arn't tortured(most) or sheep etc, but still it's killing it to gain for ourself. Anyhoo, it's off this topic altogether so let's leave it.

I still say, that it's not as clear cut as "all who abuse animal must pay!", since there are "lessening" factors.

Sure, when you take a pet, you need to be in a stable enough environment, but things change, and if you have to put your pets, or your own life, against eachother, well, sad as it is, the pet is still a commodity.

*Not saying this is how i would choose, but how things work.

I feel quite strongly about animal cruelty. Big fine and imprisonment. There's not a lot else you can do. More funding to the RSPA and animal shelter / homes. Thats about it. Perhaps shaming them in local newspapers. Lot of animal lovers in the UK.

Because we all know how much punishing another person works? - Insted of learning them right from wrong, so that they can change.
But I guess it's all down to, if you want the person to get back into society as a valuable member or just want him/her to get out and do the same.

It is indeed a very evil act they have done... don't get me wrong. But try to help people to become better insted of just punishing them so you can feel good for a few moments.

We're so weak on criminals in this country it`s pathetic. They purposly allowed that dog to die and get a pathetic fine and 2 months? ...
Personally I think they should have the same punishment passed along to them, lock them up throw away the key and leave them to starve to death.

Personally, I don't believe that sentence was anywhere near severe enough. Under current law standards I'd be pushing for a few years in jail, life time ban from ever owning another animal and a HUGE fine to be given to animal welfare charities who work so damn hard to try to prevent these kinda things across the world...

Ok, as people we do kill many, many thousands of animals for meat, clothing and other such crap every year but the difference there is normally that the animals in question are properly looked after until that point. Slaughter methods aren't pleasant but at least they're reasonably quick (although not always quick enough imo). Allowing any animal to go through a prolonged period of suffering like they did is absolutely abhorrent to me.

Any case of abuse, what ever form that may take, of a creature or person by someone who should be caring for him or her angers me in a way nothing else ever could. I have always felt that any abuse of children, the elderly, the seriously ill/disabled or any animal should be severly punished. In extreme cases of systematic, long term abuse like this one I’d not shed a tear for the offender if they swung for it…

i dont believe in that im afraid. you should learn your self from your mistakes, and be punished at the same time on behalf of everyone else.

what would i be classed as in the dungeons and dragons rule set? you know, chaotic neutral and all that shit.
