anecdotal experiences of which phone is "best"; desire, desire hd or galaxy s

Afternoon,

Well as the title says really. Due a mobile phone upgrade soon and looking at those three. Each has positives and negatives, which the on-line reviews I've read and watched point out.

But I was just wondering if anyone on here has used these for a decent length of time? I was hoping to get comments on how they perform in everyday life, rather than just standard review information.

My main concerns are:

desire hd: too big.
Galaxy s: seems slow to respond when I've played with it in phone shops. kind of stuttery. i phone copy too.
desire: middle of the road, good all rounder.

Any comments or advice welcomed.

Thanks,

Adam

What about a nexus s? Got the good samsung hardware, but stock android with google software updates. There's also a bunch of new android phones due out shortly, mostly based on tegra 2.

I've got the desire hd myself and yes it's big, but you get used to it.

I wouldn't suggest the desire, it's getting a bit old now.

Software updates for the galaxy s is a problem. Samsung have been crap at this.

I considered the desire so awesome that I bought one off the rack rather than with a sub. I was not wrong. When my sub renews, I will get another desire.

I thought the Desire HD would be too big before I got it, now I've had it a while I wouldn't want it any smaller.

Comparing the Desire and Desire HD in each hand, the HD will jump out at you as heavier.
The question is whether you like the extra heft in your hand or not. It's not something you can tell in advance, you have to try it for yourself.

The Desire is the swiss army knife of phones because it's been rooted, unlocked and custom ROMs are available for it. If you want Desire HD functionality then you can apply a custom HD rom to a Desire (and lose your warranty).

Desire is 13 months old, Samsung Galaxy S is 9 months old and has GPS issues(?), Desire HD is 5 months old and seems to have a rather low battery capacity given the increased screen size (and screen eats battery).

My slightly biased opinion would be to go for a Nexus S if you liked the form factor of the Galaxy S (it's a fixed version of the Galaxy S), or wait for one of the newer Tegra 2 phones. However if having the latest and greatest isn't something you're after, then just take into consideration the age of the device if you're getting a contract - don't overpay on older phones.

I am very happy with my Galaxy S but I imagine there are more powerful phones out by now, is Galaxy 2 (or whatever its called) out yet? I don't really keep track of phone tech because its pretty boring and pointless :)

Afternoon,

Totally agree, keeping up to date with mobile technology stuff is dry. I'm not really fussed by having the latest and greatest gadget, I just want to be able to browse internet, gps, video and music. And obliviously phone and text. For a cheap price.

Desire seems the best middle ground to me, can get it on an 18 month contract with 500 mins and texts and 1gb internet for about £23 a month.

Then in 18 months look whats good then.

Anyone want to vouch and opinion?

Desire S will become out soon, basically it's the Desire 2, but not radically different enough to be called the Desire 2, will keep my desire for a while longer and when the Desire S drops in price buy it outright.

I'd agree with what you say about the Galaxy S. Mine can be very unresponsive sometimes. I have missed calls before because it's gone to answerphone before i can unlock the screen.

I went with the HTC Desire. It seems the best middle ground, it arrives on Friday.

18 months and I'll be going through all this again. Sweet.

Thanks for the information everyone, it was greatly appreciated.

Quite surprised to hear that, when I read about it pre-release it sounded like a beast.
