First make sure that your shiny new phone is running version 2.2 (Froyo).
  • On the home screen, press the "Menu" button.
  • Tap "Settings".
  • Go all the way to the bottom of the list and tap "About phone".
  • Tap "Software information" and read the Android version there.
2.1 is Eclair, 2.2 is Froyo. If it says 2.1, click the "Back" button and tap "System software updates" at the top of the screen. Then click the "Check now" button.

Now install Flash Player 10.3 from the Market.
That's an important one for starters. :)

Guy in work has 2.3.3 over the air on his Desire HD so checking for an update might be worth it.

I installed Ringo today, which is a handy app in case you park and have no money for the car park machine. You can use the app instead, no ticket needed or anything. Dead handy.
