Just found this on eBay 1 day after the Japan release.

eBay PS3

Someone could make a small fortune just selling their first batch PS3, knowing that they will get a larger allocation in a few weeks time!

The funny thing is that Sony had their launch PR ruined when they invited the official first ever PS3 customer up on stage with Ken Kutaragi (Sony CEO) only to find that he was a random Chinese person who'd been paid to stand inline by a Japanese speculator. Pretty soon it became evident that nearly every single person in the queue was a Chinese migrant paid to stand in line on behalf of someone else....

Probably in a sly way .. possibly to do with the copyright of the name Playstation 3, If you can't mention the name or images of the product in an advert you can't sell it.

Sony's argument was that foriegn machines would not have the same warrenty's as local sourced machines and possibly use slightly different components.

Nintendo did a simular thing with importers over here when the game cube came out, basicly stopping them from stocking UK Nintendo games if they stocked imports.

I think sony are saying they will offer no support if you buy the wrong version so you buy from Japan you have no support. And also i think i read you will lose the web stuff UK PS Online will not allow Jap Machines to connect and Jap PS Online will not allow a UK IP to connect. If thats true it might stop UK from buying the yank consols as you lose the online content

How would that be possible? Just VPN tunnel the bloody connection. Anyone with some basic tcp/ip knowledge and the right contacts could go around a protection like that.

utter morons who even consider buying this. Just wait a few months, not like your life depends on owning this console.
