The best one I ever played was called Hl deliverance (i think its been a while)
Had lots of levels over 4 worlds and a full story.
It's quite hard to find a download for though because the developers pulled the official one in the hope that they could release it commercially.
I also remember an intersting one where you used swords and stuff.

Anything by Neil Manke was always very original (They Hunger etc.) I think ther is also one knocking around called Counter Life which is basically half life with CS weapons

Afraid I'm not really up on it anymore, as I've only played multiplayer HL recently
