For a second, lets give him the benefit of the doubt. "More intelligent than everyone else" isn't very precise. Is he talking about official Mensa IQ ratings ? Or specific academic disciplines ? Or is he talking about being more intelligent that everyone else in every single possible aspect ?

If so, I'd love to guage his intelligence in the field of stochastic calculus and the pricing of financial derivatives using generalised autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity ! A field I consider myself to be rather proficient in.

It can, in-accuracies are what usually get people caught, and in this instance, i can claim that "not all people know these in-accuracies and WILL assume it's me." Hell, i can get a couple of people here to testify so i believe.

The person's attempt to impersonate your account is not accurate and poorly improvised. If that person somehow got onto your VERY account and impersonated you then yes, that would be fraud. However, the person who started the thread wasn't acting as you - because it was easy to distinguish from the real old.Tohtori. The name is different, as is the reputation and title, etc etc.

If you had a basic understanding of these things then maybe you wouldn't have wasted your time

There's been plenty of advancements in the internet law world aswell. Identity theft is moving to the net aswell, and as i said, it's not identity theft "as such", but according to my sources it is a minor offence still.

Especially since he can just waltz back in and act like he did before. So there's no punishment or justice in banning him.

If so, report it to the mods, but if thats all it was, he's not committed a criminal offence. It would be proper ID theft if he obtained Toto's IP address and other details with a view to acting improperly in the real world.

Identity theft is when you use someone elses credit card to his advantages, or uses your name to achieve things. "half" copying someones name on a forum and just posting wont do any harm, and its allrdy proven that i wont do any harm because everyone on the thread knew it wasnt you Toht. If you didnt have to suffer under it, it wont be seen as a fraudation...

yes, but if you charge him on Identity theft, u wont stand a chance, u'll need to find a legal term for this to be able to charge him. and i cant think of any legal terms that refer to as copying a forum name and mess around abit.

I know I havn't followed up, it was a joke and I know you havn't followed up either. It's a deterrent, I've had death threats, I've had people claim to know where I live and yes, I've had the "I've reported you to the police" card aswell. What have the come to? Nothing.

Even if you have reported things to the authorities, well what can I say? All you need to do is look at this thread and you will see what people think. Perhaps they could find out what region I live in but they could only find out who it was if my own ISP issued them my adress and as I probably live in a different country to you it would be impossible.

On the other hand, the other 99% probability is that they simply won't care. All I am saying is that if you have the cheek to say I have "no life" and insult me then I find your reactions bizzarre.
