AMD have a serious update coming in 3 months if the numbers are any indication...

DailyTech - Report: AMD x7xx Mid-range GPUs to Get Performance Bump

The spec sheet shows two GPUs (the HD 6750 and HD 6770) that clearly outclass AMD's current mid-to-high range offerings (HD 5750 and HD 5770), even rivaling AMD's current high end flagship chips (HD 5850 and HD 5870).

With respect to their direct predecessors (e.g. the HD 5750 for the HD 6750), raw computing performance has been bumped over 60 percent, as has the texture fill rate. The memory bandwidth, Z/Stencil, and pixel rates have all approximately doubled.

If correct then AMD are going to deliver some amazing performance per £/$/euro! Nvidia must be bricking it, AMD have already gobbled up masses of marketshare over the last 18 months.

Oh nice, it's one kind of a "must get" for my current machinery.

Current machine really only fails at data transfer and desktop aero numbers(below 6.0), others are 7.0+. That's on a 600e package machine.

HP machine so the self-check is also delish, keeps everything nice fresh and clean.

Currently at an AMD Phenom II 4X 810, 2.6G and a 4600 series card(couldn't find exact model :eek6:).

Not a killer, but should be as ease as a breeze to update and those AMDs should fit right in.

Lucky i didn't buy one yet :p

The new AMD cards will be a perfect fit for that rig and the price/performance should be excellent. Be glad you waited, I know I am. :D

Got a HD4890 atm which I am happy about at the moment but every now and again I get a twitch to get something a bit more meaty, I think I can wait until January :)

Same as me bud, it still delivers at 1900x1200 so I cannot complain but it will be nearly 2 years old in the new year and I am feeling the itch. Especially if the 6770 delivers as much power as I suspect and the price point I am hoping for.

ATI radeon 4650 HD, found finally what i had, which i was about to switch come november(due to the fan being a pain at times).

Sign from the sky this is, especially with those prices, and ofcourse...Fallout Las Vegas is out late this year also.

Mmmm, next year will start nicely.

Jeez, if you switch to a 6750 you will be blown away, no shit. 6770 even more so.

Don't doubt it for a moment, i know the GFX is shite at the moment, but it does the work. You know, medium to high levels etc ;)

I think i'm gonna pop a good 200-300(depending on euro pricing, especially finnish) and get the best that comes out. Finally get that ultra level of yummy :p

Kinda interesting. Every time I think I wanna upgrade my 3-year old PC, I realise that PC graphics haven't really moved on since Crysis 3 years ago :<

Aye, the consoles have alot to answer for. We seem to be stuck with whatever is the best the consoles can handle, so basically lower res textures, 5 year old pixel shader technology and model geometery that an Nvidia 6800GT could do without breaking sweat.

PC hardware is so far beyond them right now but unlike previous console generations it seems to be crippling the advancement of PC graphics and game development in general.

It wouldn't be a bad thing if they concentrated on gameplay, they don't though.

I think i'd still stick with Nvidia tho, i've had so many driver issues with ATI cards in games and had very few in comparison with Nvidia cards.

Lower FPS isn't bad if they are high enough for you! :p

don't knock it i'm running a 5800 series ati card at present and apart from the shitty driver issues with some games its a nice card but I never had any or very few of these problems when I ran nvidia.

I've had both Nvidia and ATI and never had a problem with my ATI cards (neither with my nvidia so I simply buy the most fps/$$$). I always get a bit confused with "ati shitty drivers" but a lot of people seem to have that so I guess I have been lucky :p

Extremely debatable tbh. You haven't had fun with console games lately but lots of us have. In fact, right now I'm playing Disgaea 3 which is fucking awesome, but graphics wise it could've been done on PS2 no problem.

This TBFH.

My 4850 hasn't needed upgrading in 18 months. Runs pretty much everything I've thrown at it in max everything in 1680x1050. Yep, there's higher resolutions but still...

Console market is finally killing PC graphics. Developers haven't got the balls to make a really cutting-edge game any more.

It's because the majority of gamers are no longer "hardcore"...

Just because your GFX card doesn't need upgrading, doesn't mean graphics haven't moved along. It just means that the new hardware has a longer lifetime then 2 weeks after you take it home. If yu bought a high end card back in 2000, you might need to replace it in a year, maybe even half. If you buy a high end card today, chances are that you don't need to upgrade it 'cause it's most likely overpowered to start with.

Crysis is a ridicilous example of graphics, as you needed a monolith machine to run it 3 years ago. Hell, modern machines struggle with it too.

Sure it's pretty, but it's just TOO high end, not user friendly.

Modern games have balanced over the three years, with lighting, mapping,t extures and all the elements that are needed in graphics getting to the same level and getting to a -comfortable- level at that. They've found their norm.

But even with Crysis as a basis, let's compare;

To be fair Crysis is a bit of a pig, yes it looks really pretty but that is not a well optimised engine and it doesn't scale well even on quad core. 10ghz of raw horsepower should be able to run that game with ease and yet it doesn't, gpu's don't scale well on it either.
