Anyone else tried it? What did you think?

Can't say that it knocked my socks off but it did mean that I just picked up Lemar's new album for £3.

That said it did just what it said on the tin, worked with firefox and stuck all the purchases correctly into my music collection folders without breaking anything (there was already a Lemar folder from his first album). The only real negative was it's importing into iTunes was a little wank mostly because it didn't do it all in one go but track by track after each file downloaded.

Isn't that more an issue with itunes being a steaming turd than anything else?

1) Not that I'm aware of it has a folder import function.
2) So what, I like the tracks?

Anyway, have either of you actually tried it?

I had a look at it, it does not seem to say on their FAQ what quality the mp3's are?

It says they're 256kbps vbr. It also seems to be specified on each album/cd.

The price is appealing, but I still can't get past not having the actual CD and ripping it to mp3 if I need to.

I too would like to point out that you bought Lemur's album.

I would like to chuckle a bit too.

And maybe point.

True, I'm a little put off by the lack of a CD myself. However I've done this so far as an experiment. It's gone straight onto my iPhone and will be played in the car on the way to work tomorrow. What did come as a bit of a curiously to me however was the fact that the MP3's themselves are all encoded with LAME.

lamer aside - though seriously, why? WHY? - it's great that someone has cottoned onto the fact people are more likely to buy mp3s if the quality is similar/approaching that which they would get should they rip the CD themselves.

unfortunately it's too late, what with FLAC and all that jazz...

personally it wouldn't stop me buying CDs because it's like a drug.

That'll be the next market imho. The Nine Inch Nails ghosts thing is totally spot on. However FLAC will take more time to become "accepted" whilst the MP3 is just "there".

You've clearly never heard a well produced album then...

production values are pretty irrelevent on 80s indiepop

You dont know what you are missing because you have been spoonfed tripe.
what?

has everyone had a fucking sense of humour bypass on here? christ. get back to your immigrant rants

i download from i-tunes only, and use them on my i-pod, so i dont have an issue with i-tunes cos its all i use, but i do like to buy the actual CD, i only download individual tracks, if i want the album i'll get the hard copy

FLAC is such a pain in the arse... HUGE files. I don't think it'll work tbh, it's too elitist.

That said, LEMAR?!

I dont think flac files are too big. Think back to when mp3s were first popular, our hard drives were probably smaller in proportion to now?

I can notice a difference in flac to a 320kbps mp3 only if I try hard and only on some songs. That said I would still prefer all my music now in flac :p

LEMAR?!

It really depends what you are using to play your music back on. If you are using speakers connected to your PC, a basic car stereo or portable device with headphones then mp3 will be fine.

I think it's great, mmmm DRM-free goodness.

On the FLAC thing, I'm glad they're not. They could offer it as well I suppose, but tbh I don't care enough to want to lose so much more HDD space :p

My impressions of Amazon mp3, good. I got Flight of the Conchords! :D

Just got the new Kings of Leon for £3.00

That is mental, the bit rate is about 250kps, for some reason it varies from track to track. Loaded its self directly in to my I-Tunes folder too, without me having to do anything, artwork too

There has to be a catch.....doesn't there?

Yes, the catch is they'll do lots of business and make lots of money.

It's cos they're variable bit rate.
