Amazon issued a statement admitting the error and cancelling the orders which had been placed at the incorrect price.

The firm said that its pricing policy allowed it to contact customers and offer them the product at the true price should an error occur.

I went for the expensive option and brought a decent iPaq from ebay and then went even more crazier and buying a Navman for my iPaq too. The Navman features are pretty funky. No more getting lost I guess \o/

Alas the advert only constitutes invitation to treat rather than an offer - its the same situation if you find something mis-priced in the supermarket.

My god - dont say I was actually listening in those law lectures - shocking!

Yes I heard that one in my lessons too, although a shop etc can get in to trouble via trading standards if they repeatedly have pricing errors :)

Amazon actually honoured a misprice last year - for the Battle Royale DVD Tin which they had for sale at £11 or so (actual price £35 IIRC).

This one was a tad more drastic though. :D

Many of you may remember the Comet fiasco where they mispriced a Sony Clie T-675c PDA at £140 (normally £320).

Long story - but those monkies actually took money from people's credit cards at £140 so *had* to supply at that price and did to some who threatened small claims court action.

Having worked in a fairly large store, it is near impossible to keep items priced correctly. At busy times of the year it is the last thing on most peoples minds.

Thankfully you can always refuse to sell the item, as long as you then remove it from sale for 24 hours.

I've heard Amazon have cancelled all these orders et I've got no email from them so far and my order is still due for despatch in my account details. Have I got away with it? Or is it just a matter of time?

/me does deal with amazon to flag this one up.

Not really of course, but I'm sure they'll catch it.

Good luck all the same, down with corporate dominance, viva la consumer, etc etc.....
