In keeping wi` da topic, I`m totally bored with my games and as a result, have gone a bit retro with Dungeon Keeper 2 and Warcraft 2. Still playing THSP 2 tho. Me iz getting bored with FPS games. (probably why I haven`t been posting for a while, soz ppl) so....
I will bever get bored of FPS games, but i do like creativity. All realistic games go something like this...
Storm the building, run into a room and kill a baddy, run out with a hossie and then get a nice cut scene with the hossie thanking you. Then you get another breifing saying another hostage situation has arose in china and you go through the same thing in a different building with the terrorists chanting at you in a different language.
That applies to single player games, multiplayer games you do the same but you don't even get the cut scene. (although i find mulitplayer much more exciteing than single player in every aspect of gameing)
If there was a game which was realistic which didn't revolve around killing hoards of AK weilding terrorists i would be happy.
You could have a wargame, and it might start off in an invasion (WW2 stylee) then next mission move onto takeing out a sam site and lots of varying missions instead of the same old bollox you get from DF (although multiplayer DF is something of a treat) Rouge spear etc.
This would also make an excellent multiplayer scenario, you could have co-oprative attack and defend type games. The creators could really concentrate on getting it right and getting the maps perfectly balenced and makeing a very effective orders system and leave game types such as CTF and deathmatch to Tribes2/UT etc which are very good at it, CTF honestly doesn't suit a realistic game.
I think if a game developer really tried they could make a realistic game that was actually a new expirience and made me interested realistic games again.
What would be interesting is if 2 dev teams joined forces to make the ultimate game, one team makes a vehicle simulation side and the other make the troop side. You then get a proper war game and you actually get things like F15's comeing in to take out gun posts which are controlled by real people.
This could spawn a massivly multiplayer FPS game. 2 countries, and the first one to take over the other country wins (of course it would have to have much more depth than this). You might come up against a bunker, it would be to dangerous to storm it so you call for an airstrike, you might have to take out some SAM sites b4 the air attack can begin. Someone logs on and if they specialise in vehicle warfare in the game, they would go onto a mission screen and it might come up with a bunch of strikes (more cash or exp points for the distance/difficulty) then they choose the one they want and get a group of friends to take it out. The other country might see an incomeing attack and develop a defence team. It would be like a flightsim/tanksim/combatsim all in one.
This is already being partially done by planetside (although this isn't going to be realistic) but not as much thought going into vehicles. Only the FPS sde of things.
Saying all that i want to expand my horizon of gameing into RPG's. I want to play a game where i can cast spells on peeps, it sounds fun
Even better, you could get another team makeing a spy/stealth side of the game. You could have project IGI in multiplayer as a sub section of a game. Just 1 of you against the base, and you have to sneak into a base and blow something up, or destroy a runway so no aircraft could take off from there so traveling distance would be a lot longer for the people who like to do the flight missions.
This would be good because you would HAVE to be stealthy, if you get spotted then it's not just shabby AI, they are real peeps and you would quickly be killed.
