It has only just occured to me after 11 months of almost solid CS playing how bored i am with it. I used to love my realistic games, then i started playing games like UT and found i liked them but i still loved CS and things. I have just bought Q3 and TA and i now have a copied version of Tribes and i find myself enjoying myself a lot more than i do waiting 5 mins becase that speed cheater has just shot me 3 seconds after the match has started with a headshot script.
I love falling 20 meters and only loosing 2% of my health, not running around and being blown to smitherines by yet another AWM/P'er. I am thinking of deleteing Halflife and all the many mods i used to love to make space for Mechwarrior 4 when it comes out this weekend. (was going to get Delta force landwarrior but i don't think i will bother now).
The reason why CS type games are so popular is because they use a lot of stratagy. But the reason why Quake type games are popular is because they are fun. I think that the most sucessful games are the games that mix strong teamplay elements with amazeing fun. Tribes for example. I know someone who is on the BETA for tribes 2 and it is an awsome game (although it is stopped atm). I love to pick up a jet pack and fly to the enimy base. And in Quake3 and UT to look up to see 50 rockets flying over my head while i am running with the flag. It gets so much adrenelin pumping.
When/if i do uninstall HL thenthe one thing i will miss is the community. I like talking to ppl in my games and in UT the only thing that gets said is "GG" while i look at my score and wait for the next map to load.
Am i in the minority here or do others feel the same?
