And tbh, modern garages have to rely on technology more and more - I took the Picasso into the garage to have it's firmware updated the other day...they couldn't connect to the Internet to get the file from Citroen on their existing dialup, so I had to lend them one of mine...

I don't have a decent car, I own an economical family cavalier with wiring that I think was done by a monkey (Also my water pump is now pissing out water faster than I can put it in). Due to my dad nicking my tools I was left with my screw driver and my teeth to wire the CD player.
I didn't say working in IT prevents you from doing stuff about the house, I'm sure you picked it up somewhere, but then I'm sure I'm a hell of a lot younger than you (I'm not that much older than Dan).
And the garage I worked in specialised in diesel HGVs and agricultural vehicles, we didn't even have an emissions tester. A calculator was about the most we had. I had to learn all that at college where they had the computers and electronic equipment.
