Just recently got back from a 2 day trip to alton towers, and I must say it is excellent value for money if you stay in the hotel. We got 2 days in the park, bed and breakfast for one night, free parking, extra ride time for £68 each for a group of 3.
I highly recomend it and we're going to do it again this year maybe during the halloween period despite the higher price. But I was wondering if any of you know how busy is it normally around this time? Hour long queues for the major rides tend to be normal during the season, so how does it compare to that.

hah i just went for the day on friday, really loved it. Had been a couple years since last visit, so hadn't experienced rita or air yet. Have to say i really loved rita, and will happily agree that it's a great day out, if you can stomach the drive :)

Alton towers around Halloween is INSANE......queues are hugely long and everything is full to busting......BUT, the atmosphere is fantastic....so I guess its up to you!

I hate Alton Towers, it is the home to every wasp in England.

Pity really as I only live about 20 minutes away.

Heh luckily it wasn't sunny or hot when i went, kept raining slightly every so often so no wasps appeared from their homes.

It's the bins, you're in a queue thats moving 1 metre per hour and you get stuck next to a bin full of icecreams and discarded sweets and the wasps swarm around them. Luckily for us it was overcast and the wasps were staying in.

BTW new ride Mutiny bay is awesome if you like wet rides, although wet isnt the word. Water cannons on the boats and dotted around the outside and in the queues, buy a poncho.

I'm thinking of going sometime this week but i'm not sure as it's half term for a lot of schools - are the queues etc particularly large during the summer half term?

It is half term and more importantly its half term in Staffordshire so it will be absolutely rammed all this week.

I went to Alton Towers a few years back when Oblivion was brand new, was thinking of going in August for my birthday, but I think the queues will be massive, may wait till September when the kids go back to school.
