ALT attributes on smilies

Dr_Jo had an issue earlier when none of the images would load - no idea why - but it did give an enlightening imageless browsing experience.

She's wondering if there's a way to add alt attributes to the smilies - since they just displayed as empty boxes, with no sensible way of working out what they are. Just having the smily text (e.g. "") would probably do the job

Could this be added in future?
