Would it be far to say Alpha was one of the most feared chars for solo'ers/duo etc in OF emain/DL pre toa/just after release ?

just a random convo with a mate and i think he was the only person i feared if i left Dl solo, a few years back

He was the famous ebayed mincer who wasnt ebayed i think aswell oO

not really, unless you count being fully buffed vs unbuffed expers or running away when getting spanked...

didnt he also duo a lot with some other mincer or inf (cant remember which) with a near mystical ability to zero in on you anywhere in the zone? :p

Don't think he was feared he was just annoying.

A Pre Horner Alpha was killing Xpers.

When he got a fight he soon stunned and ran.

Even if he was one chickenshit player, he was one of the first to take the minstrel class quite far with tactics as offensive sos, mezzing ppl between amg-mmg running to get a redcon worm of wtfness and keeping several players interrupted etc. Everyone else caught up though and in the end he could even be killed by my no-mocing rm :(

In his day he was probably THE best player in Albion. I rarely, if ever saw him running other than solo and his ability to play the minstrel was awesome.

40% of playstyle on your class is down to skill... how well you do? other 60% is down to mythic if they want your class to do well? most op classes at mo

Champ Warder Warrior Armsman Abomination Valkery? many more

Mythic decide not you

And wl is not op they prob hardest class at mo to play?:p

he was an active whore but a very good player (thou im not sure i ever saw the original alpha, this was just before and just after toa launch and i think we were on alpha #2 or #3 by then)

introduced me to zephyr, i remember screaming in vent "WTF IS THAT BS?!@A@S!" when he got my animist 1st time :<

minstrels were a lot stronger in OF than now thou, the RA revamp screwed em a bit losing dodger and AP and MoB, once a mini had MoB1 dex effected shield and it gave us like 25% block rate compared to 5% we have now

also not everyone had 36% body resists :<

pip to be fair, gamah had to do a bit more on minstrel than you do on warlock to win

i remember him n carp making a compendium of everyones resists using cyclops shield so they could wtfown all stealthers with lws

such extents one has to goto to win on minstrel these days geez

Alpha was a legend in his time, (I remember trying to kill him with my shadowblade(critblade) so many times :p) but not the best minstrel overall.

There were two types of minstrel good group minstrels like kklas and good solo minstrels like carp/alpha.

I sucked it groups tbh but I like to think I did all right for myself solo (I once killed a fg of rr1's :p)

Just to clear up the ebay question: He played a cleric (can't remember the name something like Grimsomething? meh, anyway) to 50 in the days when smite was good, smite got nerfed + cleric not being much fun = he picked up a mincer of someone quitting. Think it had a few RR (not much, maybe 3?) when he got it. This is why Alpha had the headstart of mincer + buffbot. Good player and a nice guy, like others have said it's true he maxed out his class's potential but a lot of his success was down to intelligent play.

His cleric was called Gromit. There was a lot of radar accusations about both of the players who played Alpha, doubt it ever happened tho. First person to use a cleric buffbot was a minstrel aswell but not Alpha, was a saracen minstrel called Jazshara or something along those lines. Alpha was one of the few buffbotted guys for a long long time though.

I remember first Veeshan too, he scared me :(

About Alpha, I didn't have that much trouble with him with my SB (ofc SB was op and all) but it was impossible to kill him. If he started losing he always had means of getting away :p (this was when BBs was alot more common tho, so not really start) With my hunter i camped forrest sauvage most of the time so didnt face Alpha alot :)

I think he was "feared" because he was a lot higher RR than a lot of us at the time and 1on1 you were pretty much dead.
And if you somehow were going to win, he ALWAYS escaped, the mofo :>

But I'll always remember him as he had a cool name, Alpha Male (I think), and it was always fun trying to kill him :)

I remember the old Veeshan. Some Russian guy iirc. Infact I saw the Veeshan toon this week in emain. Dunno who has it now tho.

Lol, I've spoken to at least 4 veeshans, didn't even know the original (I don't think, was a long time ago) and have heard there have been more then that too (baring in mind i haven't really rvred in about 8 months). Is quite funny really, there is no other competition when it comes to the most whored account of all time on this cluster :D

This guy was the biggest pain in the ass ever. As people said in other posts he was always hard to kill and seemed to have more "get out of jail cards" then there is sand in Saudi Arabia.

Used to be fun to try and hunt him down, hard as nails and certainly was one of those people when you used to see his killspam half of the stealthers in DL would go out looking for him and the other half would wait for his death before moving out.

True though he was one of the first to use a BB but at the end of the day i dont diss the guy for it as he was using the tools that Mythic made available to players. Just like in real life, warfare always evolves, i bet the the Japanese werent happy about the Americans getting an "A" bomb but it sure as hell helped the USA to finish the war and wasnt long before everyone else wanted one too.

Kinda like the discussions about BB's, to have or not to have, a moot point now.

Being an 'oldtimer' two names struck fear into hibs at DL Alpha and Bee, those guys seemed to be in DL valley 24/7 no word of a lie and if you were luicky enough to get past them Nolby Pride FG would kill you exping at the Torcs. :)

All in all a really fun way to start this game. :)

Someone referred Alpha to horner, no comparison really, Alpha played to kill you simple as that once the job was done he was gone, no dancing ruding, laughing just gone.

Horner just played to grief.

alpha was a good player, online almost perminently. Got a lot of his kills V unbuffed players and gimps ofc... (cant blaim a man for that, there was just more gimps back then as the game was new)

but anyone who had a solid proper toon themselves and ran buffs back then would know that he was a good opponent who played his cards well and could escape if things were going bad, and one of the first prominent hardcore players to hit the server.

Brommix was the inf he ran with a lot.

And yes alpha had a good "ability" to find peeps. prolly radar'd but who knows and who cares.

Ive always thought though if its not your toon that you create and level then it counts for nothing, apart from your own enjoyment. but theres always been a big epeen element to daoc, with a highly competative player base all convinced they are the dogs bollacks.

What alot don't realise is he ran for most of his rvr career with an SI template and his only artie in TOA was battler.

Alpha , in my humble opinion, should be rated alongside such greats as Turgon and Talivar.

Alpha was the reason i stopped going to Gorge and began camping Sauvage instead.
A fully buffed, high RR minstrel was too much for my greencon, unbuffed skald and he always ganked me as soon as i entered the zone it seemed. :p

Got killed by him a couple of times when i was 50 as well, before i got a bot myself. Always wanted to have a fight with him once i got a bot, but never saw him then.
