Well file wise with the mp3s you can choose to have your tracks encoded up to 384kps, which is better than CD quality (320kps).

You can also download your tracks as:

WMA
OGG
MP4
MPC

Lossless:
Monkey's Audio Lossless
OptimFROG Lossless
FLAC Lossless
PCM Wave
WMA 9 Lossless

So quality ain't an issue ;)

You need to pay more for the higher quality ones though.

Yes, but what higher quality were you talking about?

Well, the price is worked out per MB, so a file encoded as a 192K MP3 will cost a lot less than a PCM Wave file. I think that's what he was getting at.

I know that Whipped :)

I was referring to his previous post where he'd rather get them at a better quality...

So a 384kbps rip from a CD is better than CD quality?

CD quality is defined as 320kps. Try Googling it: the first 5 links I tried with the search "what bitrate is cd quality" pretty much support my opinion.

Chilly makes a good point though - how is something that's bound to be ripped from a CD, better quality than a CD?

Theres absolutely no way 384 is on par with CD.

Think about it (im no expert mind you), a 5 minute track at 384 kbps is probably around 10 megs. 5 mins on a cd is approx 60 megs?

I encode all my stuff at 312 - and theres a world of difference between a cd and an mp3. I cant be fooked to look around the web for the details but that is what I think.

I'm just stating what others have said around the web. I never stated that 384kps sounded better than CD, because obviously mp3 is a lossy format compared to pcm wave, just that it was a better bitrate than what is commonly accepted as CD quality for mp3 files.

In other words, you're not likely to get a better sounding mp3 from another source.

320kb isn't CD-quality.

1411.2 kB is CD-quality.

mp3 is good enough for portable or in-car systems, or computers, but for hi-fi it will always suck massively.

human ears are surprisingly good, my brother is always moaning about testing speakers with MP3 because they sound shit compared to a CD (he works for kef who make audiophile grade speakers).

As to my earlier point, even if you upsample a CD rip, you are only ever going to have, at absolute best exactly the same anount of information you had on the CD, in most cases, a lot less.

Since i lost all of my music about a year ago, i aint really had the heart to get it all again.

Anyhoo - Im using this now and downloading them, one question though - When i select an album to download, i go to the screen but it looks like i have to select each song individually for download... Is there a way just to download the whole album/s at once?

Get allofmp3 explorer (download on the page), and use that to order. That way you can right click the album and 'order album'. Much easier and the whole process is automated for you.
