Overpriced yes, but if your life is mobile and you move around a lot its a great tool. I need to be able to fit everything into a backpack to keep me going for a week to three weeks at a time several times a year.

So my laptop is everything, revision tool, desktop replacement/gaming machine and DVD/Blu-ray player I can easily move about the flat, Uni and down to Essex for the holidays.

Its not the best by any means, but for what I got it for a year ago, it was a steal (about £200 under retail). I still have all the desktop hookups, printer, moniter etc, but they are much more easy to move when I move flat when they don't have a desktop unit with them (god bless flat screen monitors).

Looking at a £1300 XPS at the mo.

I'm still using my 3.5 year old m15x and it's been excellent for gaming while on the road.
15" is perfect for mobility and there was nothing else like it on the market at the time.

For crap laptops they win a lot of awards. If you want the latest mobile graphics Alienware is the way to go. Vs a XPS which you can get to a high spec the Graphics is the main difference and the GPU benchmarks do show there is a difference. I my self would not buy one as i could not afford one. But if you can afford one and want your gaming mobile they are worth considering. It might be worth checking here as they offer configurable gaming laptops http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/gaming-laptops/

Alienware use quite outdated graphics cards now.. you can buy a far better Laptop for under the price of an alienware.....

A few years ago they were good laptops to splash cash on, but now.. no way.. only someone incredibly lazy would buy one.

You get a better graphics card with the M14X.

Also with the 15% off coupon the M14X comes down to £832

Also if you read the comments in that deal it doesn't actually work, i tried several times before i read the comments from other's trying to order the same deal.

Any other comparison's?

If you go onto dell and try and build that same laptop it's impossible as they only put the GT 525M in the XPS laptops which is a significant downgrade.

My M11X R3 i7 2637m/2gig GT 540M cost only £797 with coupon's, never ever forget the coupon's with dell i got nearly £210 off in coupon's with my order.

Might be worth looking at Dell Outlet - I picked up an XPS L502 with a 2GB GT540M, 8GB RAM and a i7 2670QM for £600 earlier this month, you can't spec anything else but it gets the same Dell warranty

To be honest the best place to look might be ebay,

I would hate playing games on a smaller screen... The laptop i would have to get would need to be atleast 17.3... Also i saw a comment about desktop pc which i dont want anymore because of space it takes and laptops imo are almost as good and with the benefit of taking it anywhere you want.

As mentioned before i have a very high spec laptop which has no trouble running any games. The only real problem is that it over heats fast. I also have the laptop cooling fan which seems to do the trick. But i would still want to get a 'gaming machine' instead of the laptop i have already.

If you really want to splash the cash and have a screen that big (imo, 17 inch is still very small, you can just get a small computer case if that's your problem....)..

It's a beast of a laptop, alienware and everything but you could probably find a better deal if you looked.

Waste of money, you'd be better off feeding your notes through a shreadder straight into a bin.

I had a 17" Dell XPS for a couple of weeks (had to return it due to the i7 processor thing). A 17" screened laptop is no laptpop.

It is big, heavy, hot and noisy.

I ended up with a 15.5" XPS which is much more user friendly.

We have an account with Dell at work, hence the Dell machines. I'm aware I could get better shopping around, but Dell is just easier and good enough for me.

We're moving house shortly from a small bungalow with no space (laptops are the only practical choice), and I have a corner where I can have a desk, shelves for my stuff etc. I haven't PC gamed since meeting my other half 6 years ago. I may, later, start speccing myself a gaming desktop.
