Just had a really really nice afternoon, went to see Alice in w/land at the cinema and really really enjoyed it (read some shocking reviews of it but imo it was spot on)...did give me another tattoo idea ^^ but luckily the tattoo shop was shut on way home so I got a mojito and hawiian pizza instead :)

Anyway, just thought I'd add my review because all the ones I read online were really harsh, I don't know what people expect but it seems too much I mean Alice was originally a children's story so it wasn't some great philosophical work to start out with and Tim Burton really did well with his version. Thought the cast were all great, the girl who played Alice was a real surprise and although it is a weird and wonderful story the characters were well enough acted/written so that they were not farcical.

Nice dark, wonderful stuff here certainly worth the cost of a ticket...though I saw 2d and tbh can't see how 3d could really add to it.

I thought it was utter ****, just seemed to be making it up
as they went along.
Mr Depp seemed like he was adlibing while thinking about his next film.

The only thing that kept me in my seat was the sexual overtones
of Alice who is quite a cutey.

Every character was totally underdeveloped and they only way they could
hide the ridiculous paradox of Alice not remembering she was doing it all again
was to keep repeating 'why doesn't she remember?'

It tried to be Narnia and didn't have one ounce of the brilliant
conversations from the original.

Did I mention I didn't like it?

it's a sequel not a remake :p, they usually don't copy the original story

overrated? it's not rated very highly by the reviewers afaik.

I enjoyed it for what it was. Not one of Tims best movies, however it was still decent. I wouldn't watch it without female company though :)

Good to hear some more views on this movie. I'm thinking it's one of those that you have to be in the mood for to see. :) I haven't even seen the original Alice in Wonderland nor read the books so i'm probably missing out anyway. :p

I just brought wonderland & looking glass, I always loved the story but never actually read the proper LC version; I have AIW from the library store and it is from the 1930s the illustrations are just glorious

Well i thought it was very good, not quite as Burtonesque as i thought it would be, but thats not a critisism. Didn't need to see it in 3D either, dont waste your money on that one, just go to the 2D viewing and save yourself £3.

Helena Bonham-Carter reminded me a little of Miranda Richardson's Victoria in Blackadder

I feel i need to read the original books to fully 'get it' tbh. This is a re-working and takes influences from other Lewis Caroll works, all done very cleverly

And Depp was brilliant as i think he always is, pure escapism

With your standards 2 ladies is a horde mate

heh, well just been to see it. au contraire Edmond, imo it was *very* Burton indeed! so friggin much going on in frame at once though, jeepers, almost begs a second visit!

anyway, I must say I didn't find the acting particularly good, in fact, imo Dormouse was the best character, and she was animated! besides that, once the White Queen was introduced, I found myself pleasantly distracted by thoughts of a threesome with her and Alice, or Anne and Mia if you prefer. (translation: I wasn't particularly engaged by the film and got bored)

teedlerating:
3d: I'd not yet seen a 3d film in the cinema, and this one was IMAX+3d. I found my eyes fighting the effect somehow, and had to get my head around relaxing and just letting the image wash over me so to speak, rather than focussing on the screen. Some effects were very well done, but there also were some cheap shots imo. 6/10
acting: best actor was an animated char. ahem. 3/10
story: like I said, I got bored and started fantasizing about boobies. though I do this often, during a movie or book is not a good sign really. I actually liked the end bit with the return to the party and the ships best. 4/10
effects: pretty awesome, and some very nice dresses/suits. Burton really looks after that stuff very well. 7/10
overal: 5/10 "meh"
