I tried listening to Eminem's stuff but I don't like his lyrical style. It annoys me :(

I was never a fan of Eminem before but I quite liked the new album.

I don't even know what albums have come out this year.

Listened to Disclosure's (I think), Timberlake's and Eminem's - So probably those 3. Reverse order.

That plus James Blake, Eminem, disclosure and Frank ocean.

Frankie O was 2012 but I agree with Eminem. Listened to the whole thing for the first time yesterday and loved it.

Damn, time goes to fast these days. Can't believe that came out last year.

Agreed. saw them in notts before the album was released (and based on Lies) and they were pretty damn good. Hopefully catch them again at the Edinburgh Hogmanay Party.

Others (it's been a poor year for me in terms of new music, busy as fuck at work):

The National - Trouble Will Find Me
Haim - Days are Gone
Savages - Silence Yourself
Arcade Fire - Reflektor

I liked the Haim album, but it was so long coming that half the tracks I had already as singles and B-sides, it became a bit of an anti-climax.

And now they have re-released Forever, why?. I would imagine they are getting a bit pissed off dragging the same set around on tour. Be interesting to hear some new stuff, whenever that might be

Haim album was too short and too long coming as ed said. They are talented, and fit though.

Savages juuuuuust didn't make my top 15, and I actually haven't heard the new Arcade Fire in it's entirety. I'm not sure I approve tbh. I loved Funeral/Neon Bible, and to a lesser extent The Suburbs, but this new thing....hmmm

I have avoided new music this year to a certain extent and as a result I don't have much to add.

Arcade Fire remain one of the few bands who are still progressive, fresh and interesting despite their fame and the legacy that precedes them. I see Reflektor as only a small departure from their signature sound and for the most part I love the album. There are a few tracks that I'm sure will grow on me over time, but overall it's fairly excellent.

pitchfork's top 50 is interesting this time around. I think they're trying to ditch the meh feel they have of late. I like that Majical Cloudz is in the top 10, although I am unsure about their #1.

They still have absolutely no idea what they're talking about though. This opening paragraph on Parquet Courts is the most misguided, overwritten bullshit I've encountered in a long time:

Light Up Gold is record-collector-rock for record-collector-rock-collectors, 34 gone-too-quick minutes of chin-stroking, bowl-cashing, amp-ruining, Socrates-dying-in-the-fucking-gutter punk. Parquet Courts are staunchly image-conscious about not having an image whatsoever, and on Gold, they perhaps accidentally dial in on that miracle middleground between art school and the CBGB’s bathroom, Malkmus and "New Rose".

Yeah because whether they're subjectively 'good' is entirely the point.

@TdC I had a feeling you had more sense than that!
