Ok, I've recently started playing here with my new alt on alb / pryd. I've joined a guild and they're all good people, but these are for the salisbury / camelot hills / black mtns - people, aka "lowbies".

Sure, I do understand that many of these people play their first character, but still this has bugged me alot:

**Peon helps poor resting blue paladin from a sudden aggro mob
**Another aggro mob charges Peon wildly from behind
**The now fully rested Paladin rises to his feet.
**Peon does a /yell and calls for help.
**Blue paladin runs off without a word

Firstly, these 2 mobs were both blue to me, so they would have been yellow to him. If he'd helped we would have easily killed em both, but since he ran away I died.

The first time I was like "OK, he has probably just started his first character out of the box", but when it happened to me 5 times again on the same day by different people.

conclusion:
"XXX calls for help from the northwest!" does NOT mean "Run away to the southeast!"... =)

starting an alt is hell since you have to go over the same thing again and again..going back to prydwen as a minstrel to was hard in the beginning you had to teach people about not breaking mez, teaching them about baf/add and so on and so on.
My advice is killtask your way to 20 asap faster than most groups anyway hurry to keltoi and get some quicklvs there (ant room was great for me) then on to Catacombs (fast lvls there to) and then you might go barrows a few lvls or head to lyonesse.
a minstrel can be lvled sooo fast you wouldnt believe it

Last night I had some right old japes with my minstrel. I went to join a friar at the beach in SP and I came across two blue cons being set upon by an orange con tomb raider near the Nymph grove south of the slavers. I ran to help and drew the aggro off them, but not before one died. I disposed of the mob but then noticed that the other blue had ran SOUTH in SP, i.e. towards harder mobs. I realise that this guy is risking yell hounds, aged basilisks, huge boars and (gulp) giants. Before I had time to react I see him being chased by 2 yell hounds. He must surely realise that he will die, so what does he do? He takes me with him by bringing mobs to me! :(

Maybe I shouldn't have helped in the first place, but it's not in my nature to ignore a player in distress. It's a shame I got took out as a result.

I join up with the aforementioned friar and it turns out that these two blue cons are in his party too. Not a word was mentioned by the 2 blue cons about the raider and doggies :(

We had quite a nice party going, certainly capable of killing a single giant. We starting bulling bassies and boars and killng easily, but I had to keep reminding a lvl 13 armsman to get back to the beach to fight mobs in case of pop. I dunno, put a big pointy stick in someones hand and they think they own the plains. Well the idiot just runs up to a giant which promptly brings a friend. Again, not being one to run, I picked up my flute and proceeded to mezz the add and it worked! Hurrah!

Shame the theurgist and another armsman had to then break the mezz immediately :(

Result: two giants saying "that was fun!".

I quit the party immediately after that I carried on kill tasking.

I agree with the Keltoi comment. I have a lvl 23 fire wiz who had similar shit in SP, but once in Keltoi things are largely OK. By then most players know the score (with the exception of the odd idiot) and do all the right things, e.g. not breaking mezz, concentrating on one mob etc.

Hmm, I have noticed the whole /y or /yell being useless... I always go help when I hear this BUT MANY, and I mean MANY do not even seem to notice the damn YELLOW text!

Well, I don't know which people in the guild you have met but I can assure you that we don't all play our first char.

As for the hunting, there are a lot of people yelling in this game and even more that don't even know what it means so let them get to know the game and in time everyone will learn to play :)

i have to agree on this one...i`m not sure if it`s the weather or soemthing but there are some complete muppets about.

i`ve just started 2 new alts aswell (lvl 7 and lvl 10 currently) and oh my word the no. of times i`ve been killed by plain stupidity!

it was never this bad before im sure..
for example got a good group together ready for some great exping in salisbury :)))) ) as soon as we get there 1 of our tanks runs right into the tree`s with the nymphs and starts wacking away! 1 release later.... having calmly explained how to fight in groups to everyone ... 1 person pulls ..clerics heal.. etc..

back out to salisbury again.. 1 of our clerics runs AT a basilisk and starts wacking it! np except it`s surrounded by a tomb raider scout and a boar! release time....

anyway this went on i`ve now grouped with lots of lvl 7-12 peopel and come to the conclusion i`m better off alone right now less death.. i`m not trying to be snotty about noobs or anything like that but come on there`s noobiness and then there`s stupidity!

The group on the beach

Ahh, so that you were the minstrel, that did not say what he was going to be doing in the group. Then left without so much as a goodbye!!

I was the theurgist in the group that supposedly broke the mezz (that you had not told anybody you were going to do...and I'll tell you why I did it!

When the group was formed...I told people I would be handeling adds with pets along with the afforementioned tank that you think got the group killed... pets last for 30 seconds (whereas your mezz lasts for 10 seconds...if that at that lvl). Minstrel's mezz at that lvl sucks...I know...I've leved 3 minstrel. Your landed mezz would have held that giant for about 5 seconds.....hardly enough time to win the battle. We were doomed the minute the 2 giants were pulled.

You really should tell people what you are going to do in a group...and not just assume that people know your playstyle.

After having a look at the group I always tell people (or ask) what I will be doing in the group.

Yes the group lastnight had a few newer players in it. But experienced players are supposed to help in situations like this. Don't flame newbs for not knowing any better....we were all new to the game at one point.

No, Shivian meant me.

First, sorry I went off without saying anything. By way of explanation, I was miffed at a couple of needless deaths, the latter one being too much to handle after a long day in the epic zone in midgard, as I died because of a gung-ho armsman who wouldn't listen. I apologise for disappearing with no words said.

To explain my stance. We agreed that we would fight single mobs (bassies, boars and single giants). Before we got that last armsman I did actually say that I'd tank. This was when we had one tank. In fact the first mobs we fought you will recall that I used DDs and my sword.

By the time I joined there was no discussion of adds and what we would do to handle them. When that second giant aggroed I instinctively pulled the flute out and succeeded in mezzing it twice. I did not appreciate that the theug pets would handle it better, so that betrays Albion inexperience on my behalf. I guess I'm the noob

I did not know the mezz would last 5 secs on the giant, so you can understand I was amazed to see the mezz broken by the party straight away.

Added to that was the fact that Bluco ignored my repeated pleas to stay at the beach...he was the one who got the giant on us too...I hope he has learned from this.

Do I take it you were the earth spec theurgist Volin? If so, sadly, I have mistaken you for a newbie for the following reasons: I saw the theu and the other guy having trouble with the tomb raider, so I run to help. The theurgs friend dies and I kill the raider, but he legs it south towards yell hounds spawn area. I assumed that people with local knowledge would head for safety north. Also, he ran back to me with the hounds getting me killed too as I rested. Added to that, when I did join party, neither the theurg or his friend mentioned the help I gave (I would have said thanks!). I dunno, maybe the theu did not realise I killed the raider for him, but there's strong evidence to suggest I helped out. After all, the raider has gone and I'm the only alb about. So the behaviour seemed to be inexperience, but if it is you then I guess it was blind panic at imminent death. Anyway, my observations here plus the rushing of mobs at the giant area led me to believe it was a party of newbies. My two needless deaths just led me to seeing the red mist which is why I left.

Once again, sorry for not saying goodbye..in retrospect I should have said goodbye and that I'd go solo.

I hope I haven't blotted my copybook with anyone. As you will hopefully have noticed, I like my pulls organised and I hope that indicates that I'm good to party with. I certainly hope to make amends for my departure at the earliest available opportunity.

One last thing...correct me if I'm wrong, but I did see another set of giant death messages, right? :)

Yes you did see another round of death messages to gaints...which was when I left the group..after saying goodbye :)

As for the yell hound incedent...I know the plains like the back of my hand...I have leve'd about 10-12 different characters there since September last year. Firstly I did not see you anywhere around and once I saw my team mate die I went back to get a rezzer to rez him...taking close care to follow the shorline where as long as you are careful you will not get any agro...and it was where the rest of the group were. I simply ran in the opposite direction as I did not want to pull agro onto the rest of the group and result in them dying from my mistake.

I do apologise that you were killed (now that I know I did it). I was slso a bit baffled by the /tell you sent me once I had died...I thought it was a LOL you died tell rather than a you B***** you got me killed.

So mistakes by both...incident forgotten...and I'll see you on the plains :p

ps if you see my little lvl 4 Mystic (future Runie) called Lide running around excal...then yup...I'm pretty much a newbie to Midgard (highest lvl so far is about 10)...so be nice to her :)

Ack Gimp sorry to hear you bumping into morons like that.

But I can say that its not all albs that are Smitten with that amount of stupidety. Yes I have been in the same situation but its amazing what response you get when you call people on their Bad behavior.

Minstrel mez at the lowest level lasts 24 seconds. It's listed as 12 but if you even a half decent flute you get double that (I have tested this on various con mobs). Minstrel mez is ALWAYS better than a pet if it holds. The simple reason being when it breaks you get a small aggro hit to the minstrel, anyone so much as swinging a sword will outaggro it. When a pet dies / unsummons you get a HUGE aggro dump on a caster, one least able to take hits. I have had to explain this many times to theurgs at low levels, FFS LET THE MINSTREL OR SORC MEZ! They do a much better job than a pet. Pets are fine, but they are NOT crowd control.

Ahh Dannyn, then I suppose all the Minstrels over at powersong are wrong then...after their months of testing since the game came out. Yes you do get a little bonus for an even con flute (about 2 seconds at that lvl). But also factor into mind that we were fighting purples and with the resist factor, that halves the mezz time. So at a rough estimate the mezz would last 7 seconds. Yes if you were mezzing a grey con mob at that lvl you might get around 24-28 second mezz time.

Also take into fact that in the minstrels mezz success rate was nerfed in a patch. I would estimtae a 1 in 3 chance at mezzing a purple con.

I in no way want to get involved in a flame war as I actually loath them...so it would be nice of you could keep your tone down.
