Well, you'd (pretty obviously, I would've thought) add the alt text to the object that contains the images, not each image individually.

I agree. It's why it's fun. Some shitty enterprise DAMs are shitty.

So I'm not a UI guy at all and my team built an internal finance tool and it looks like every 2010s bootstrap website in existence.

Put it into stitch and asked it to modernise it.

Took the output and put it in Gemini and asked it to convert each aspect into specific components and convert the tailwind to raw CSS, then asked it to map the Angular directives so I didn't have to faff and it just worked.

Was more than impressed.

Long post, sorrynotsorry. :)

So, my fitness has gone through the floor with a steady down graph over the last 5 years with a combination of lack of time because of renovation works, family drama, work and funnily enough the fact that when I do get time out here it's balls-out blowing hard sweating and zero steady state easy stuff. And the weather during the winter months has been atrocious. Couple that with exhaustion and my willpower has been depleated enough that when I was getting time to relax I'd "treat" myself with a bit too much food (goose egg custard and homemade rhubarb crumble is like crack cocaine.)

So far, so fattie.

I'm in the house now. Mum's dead (the time save!), madman brother's gone back to Oz and whilst ongoing the renovation work is manageable. Work started mandating 3 days a week in the office, so that's 40 hours a month (and 4 grand a year) down the pan in an unhealthy sitting down position, for no reason than to stop my job going to China, but despite that I'm still richer in time.

The weather has still been awful, cold, wet and windy. It's not conducive for getting out on the bike, safely, every day. Plus, steep steep steep.

So I pulled the trigger and bought a smart turbo trainer and a heart rate monitor. figured if I could motivate myself through the boredom and massive ass pain of sitting stationary in my shed during dark, rainy, windy nights then maybe that's be a win. So I signed up to zwift and started playing about.

Got bored very quickly. As a computer game it's really fucking dull IMO. I guess if you're a roadie or a racer then you get more out of it (especially racers). But for me? Yawnfest.

But then I started chatting to AI. Mix of 'em - chatgpt, copilot and gemini. Talking about motivation, how it feels, the boredom, the ass pain, goals and aspirations. History of where I was, where I'd ideally want to be if I could commit and remain motivated.

It (they all) came to the conclusion that I'm more facts and figures/data motivated. That I haven't got time for indoor exercise that I feel is anything less than fully optimal and driving towards goals - and I require science-backed measureable metrics that I can track to prove that I'm improving, how fast, against targets - both comparative to myself and against other men my age and build.

I had no idea of what realistic targets should or could be, or what metrics I should be tracking, or how to measure them objectively. I also wanted to automate as much as possible.

So, I sat down with copilot (as it's default on windows) and designed a 12 week structured polarised cycling training plan, with daily workout targets, metrics I need to be tracking to prove things are working as they should (and that I'm not over or under training). And an objective set of principles I need to stick to to ensure that the data is clean and the work is optimal - and that the metrics I track feedback into the motivation-loop. E.G. ensuring A) I sleep right for a good amount each night and B) eat early enough so my sleep isn't disrupted by digestion - and C) I've metrics that can prove it.

I whacked it all into excel and cross checked it with other LLM's and they suggested tweaks and set off.

Right now I'm 11kg lighter, my lactate threshold (LT1) has improved by 30 watts and my functional threshold power has improved too.

Yeah. I had no idea what a lactate threshold was either. I wondered if my nipples would start leaking milk.

I'll bore you with metrics in a bit but the key takaway from this is: AI has been/is acting as an elite-level partner in an ongoing journey. A phd qualified coach from Team Sky taking a clueless noob from blubbery uneducated wastrel to what (if I wanted) could be a very strong racer physiology. It's transforming my knowledge and, importantly, my motivation, in an evidence-based fashion that I like. It's like having a paid-for coach sat available, 24/7 ready to challenge and collaborate with. And I feel augmented.

Fuck cyberpunk synthetic body augmentation - the primary augmentation is that of the mind. And it's available right now, for specific objectives.

Yes, it hallucinates and needs challenging. It needs calling out on shit and refining and it's been very interesting to probe it's limitations. But it's absolutely makede a great partner in this.

I'm continuing to modify and refine the plan based on feedback and real-world data input. And what is perhaps most impressive is that it can make specific predictions based on scientific literature of various future states - and it's working out largely correct. (Even silly stuff like it'll tell me how much I'll weigh in two days following two different types of workouts and what any weight fluctuations are down to, and why).

And I'm doing actual science. Optimising workouts based on readings and data. I'm now tracking:

  • Weight
  • Resting heart rate
  • Heart rate variability
  • Cardiac drift during zone 2 sessions (this is a biggie)
  • Power output
  • Fatigue
  • Rate of perceived exertion (subjective self-feedback)
  • Blood pressure metrics over time (massively improving)
  • Functional Threshold Power
  • VO2 max (predicted, I can't physically measure oxygen consumption outside of a lab)
  • Lactate Threshold (LT1, not LT2 yet (no point in LT2 whilst I'm still so far behind my own curve)

And loads of mathematic analysis based on these metrics is achieved automatically, graphed out, screenshotted and fed back into AI for feedback.

Some of these I wouldn't have even heard of before using AI as a training partner.

It's suggested apps for me - so garmin's doing the weight (it's our scales) and impedance guff, the heart rate data gets pumped in automatically by zwift for internal exercise sessions and wahoo for external. Per-second power data is tracked by the turbo and zwift (power training is incredible, I never knew tracking exactly what I was doing in watts would be so transformative). Then they're all aggregated and analysed by a free (and hugely popular) website setup by some bloke called intervals.icu.

My training plans have been tailored to the fact I'm following a ketogenic diet but AI suggests targetted carbs on some days and it makes a measureable difference in workout quality.

Just a flavour of what it's effectively teaching me: LT1 - lactate threshold. It's the point of steady state exercise which is the highest effort you can sustain while staying mostly aerobic and comfortable. Above this your body starts producing lactate at an increasingly unsustsinable level. Increasing this is good because it's your all day "diesel engine" - allows you to just keep going when others would be utterly fucked.

I can measure this through cardiac drift. I find it by working out at a certain power (say 120w to start) - and intervals.icu tells me if my heart remained steady over the workout or whether it started to drift upwards because the effort was unsustainable.

If it's steady - add 5watts power to the next workout. If it drifts up 5-10%, stay at that powe. If it drifts >10% reduce by 5 watts.

I found my threshold, am training in the scientifically correct zone, and tracking the (ridiculoys) improvements.

I'm motivated. I'm actually excited by it.
It's a lot if fun. And I'm ripping through my film collection doing really easy, sustainable workouts whilst losing weight, gaining fitness and getting really motivating feedback.

AI has absolutely transformed my fitness approach. I cannot imagine not doing this as it's so simple and really impactful.

Only downside is that it's telling my old ass that I have to lift the weights I've been avoiding my whole life.

So, this afternoon... gonna see what I need to measure.

However, AI (and my turbo trainer) makes it so easy. All the intellectual heavy lifting is done for me - I just need to follow the plan and then get smoke blown up my own arse when it analyses the results for me.

I've seen some Mr Nippard videos, but I can't bring myself to lift weights like that (and have absolutely zero desire for hypertrophy-based 'gainz'). But I do need proper functional strength - lliving here, with the jobs that need to be done round here, it's non-negotiable any more. If a tree comes down, blocks us in, then I need to be able to clear it without injuring myself in the process. Or, as the other night, I need to be getting out during storm fucking Dave in 92mph winds, pinning down animal housing that's getting really dangerously lifted and having the physical power to grab, twist, bend, all that shizzle.

I'm yet to figure out how AI is going to make that sort of exercise easier for me though. On the turbo at least it sets the power, all I have to do is wear a heart rate monitor, turn the pedals and watch Rollerball...

To be fair if a tree is blocking you in then dynamite can work wonders.
