Advice needed

I'm starting to play Q3 online now and wanted some advice:
From the tons of mod's, Expansion maps wich stuff is worth downloading?
What is the current patch for most servers ?,like the bw ones.

bw is currently using version 1.17

mods are a litle bit subjective, but rocket arena 3, q3 fortress and weapons factory seam very popular.

personally i like instagib, but its more or less a server side mode (osp is diddy so dont count ).

Another thing to note is some of the mod downloads are pretty huge. But you can find them on the cover discs of many PC game magazines these days. Even if they are not the 'latest-greatest' there is usually a much smaller download to patch them up to the current version.
