Well I got it...

BT engineer came, got the adsl connection up in no time, problems with the dial-tone though, but overall he did a good job.

Now to see about getting my Linux gateway set up...

Not yet, but I have the day off due to the install. I think it's likely to be a while before (if) I get affected because I support our mainframe systems and we already have an "out-tasking" plan in place for that. Most likely the heads will roll in the development areas.

i cant recommend adsl providers but have you thought of 2 way satellite broadband??

You mean you have to have a fookin' great comms transmitter pointing back up at the satellite?

I'd imagine that the lag would be pretty severe on a satellite setup. Sending info down a phone line, and then receiving it via a dish doesn't seem conducive to smooth gameplay (mind you, it's probably faster than my ADSL at the mo )

Oh yeah, the site you point at doesn't, erm, seem to have a lot of content!
