Just a little info for all those who are gonna upgrade their isdn
to ADSL.

I had isdn for 18months, and in the end BT made my conn hell.

Now i am with NILDRAM, My conn is fantastic, low 30 pings at barrys servers. No Packet loss. Best connection i have seen.

They were helpfull ,,in fact great, !!!!!!!!..

And found out the other day, Bloki Uses Nildram as well,))
So it must be good ))..
Last time i met him i was still on isdn , hehe))

Now maybe i gota chance . ?????

For all those that are upgrading to adsl,, Try Nildram.!!!!!!

I here bad things about pipex,,Cheap and Nasty i think)

Nildram is generally the best DSL service from what i've heard / seen, so you made a good choice. I'd definitely consider it if i could get DSL, that is as a replacement to my NTL cable.

err would people realy consider replacing cable with asdl??? cus i am on blueyonder cable with a ping of about 18-25 on bw and cant see the advantage of asdl?

If, like me, you live in a part of the country that is blessed with flawless NTL performance, then cable completely owns ADSL sideways on every issue bar upload speed (128k v 256k on a 512 downstream connex).

If Cable is behaving itself then it is superior to ADSL, but unfortunately both BY and NTL have certain areas where performance is erratic at best.

Funnily enough....

And Sar is my Q3 name - I play for *XPd* (Div 2a BWCTFL) and PR^ (Div 2 BWRA3L & BWCPMRAL).

Although not for much longer as I'm "retiring" from playing Q3 to play DAoC and other MMORPGs full time.

I mix the two together tbh, I can't do without m'RPGs or m'FPSs. I play Q3 CCTF/CS/RA3, Wolfie and currently back into EverQuest!!

I tried (N)Everquest for about 6 weeks back in '99 and grew bored of it rather quickly, because aside from levelling up and killing the next person to put out a zone-wide broadcast looking for a bind at the west gate, there was precious little else to do.

That and the UO method of dying: IE you die and unless you find your corpse you lose equipment and money.

DAoC avoids all those by letting players bind themselves regardless of class, only having an xp penalty for dying, and plenty of nice abilities for all levels of players.

Pipex cheap and nasty, lol. It has been patchy of late and thus many people panning it, but I've ridden the rough tide and erm it owns probably more than any ISP atm. Fact. Pipex had it userbase on 1x155mb Pipe at BT, now they have spread that userbase over 3x155mb pipes, which I think you will agree is more BW than any other isp atm, in fact the maximum load on the other 2 pipes is only 5mb of data, thats it leaving over 2x150mb of BW free 100% of the time on the other 2 pipes.

I now get rock solid downloads and pings even though I am in Scotland to barrysworld servers. I get 0 packetloss at all and even hit 19 pings to BW server.

That my connection through 14 hops atm, nuff said. If i was any further south my ping time would be way lower, Cable isn't superior to ADSL at all, ever get a cable peep to send you anything? may as well go back to the narrowband days, 128kup 15k sec, meanwhile I can send a solid 30K sec 256k up to anyone, ever tried to lan as well? 256k goes well between 4 peeps, 128k doesn't

Cable is either amazingly w00t, or absolutely shite, or a bit dodgy.

But it doesnt even seem to be based on area, two of my clan live within 300yards of each other, yet one has steady 20 - 40 ping, and the other has 60 - 150, sometimes even 300+

Bloody NTL!

And no its nothing to do with their individual hardware or modems they have swapped it all around in many combinations to test it, its entirely NTL's fault

I tried DAoC and enjoyed it for a while. The whole point of the game is obviously the RvR stuff, which was the real reason I was playing it. Then you get your first raid and realise it's a laggy bunch of cr4p. I liked the no level dropping, and the death scheme, but there's something that keeps on a pulling me back to EQ. I'm fickel where MMORPGs are concerned though, so expect me to have cancelled my EQ account and gone back to AO next! Citizen Zero looks nice too So many game, alas, so many games.

That's from NI, which is just as bad, if not worse for pings and routing to the mainland.

BTW: ADSL tops out at 2Mbs, so in 3 years when I'm on a nice 4Mb pipe, well...

ADSL can work at up to 8Mbs download although UK max is currently only up to 2Mbs (apologies if that's what you meant).

Having said that I'd swap my ADSL service for a good cable connection without a backward glance...but part of that is perhaps that I've landed myself with a BTOpenwoe connection

What sort of d/l and upload speeds you getting on the 1mb service?

Reason I ask is cos I can get it here (in Belfast) and was sorta tempted, but 2.5x the price for 2x the service isn't value for money for me :/
