I've stayed away from addons until I'm convinced the client is stable enough without anything else causing randomness. Although I'm thoroughly enjoying the game I am very dubious about the quality of the client.

That said, plenty of guildmates are using addons reportedly without too much trouble reported.

Got a question here...
Since most add-ons enhance existing features or add new ones, aren´t they considered "cheats"? So when exactly is an add-on an add-on and when does it become a cheat?

I use several add-ons and haven't had any problem with the add-ons themselves. A few issues with the default UI though.

Squared - It's not pretty. I prefer Grid, however this is the closest thing. A boxed set of unit frames for your group or warban showing people's health and who is receiving your heals. Not worked out how to set it to show debuffs I can purify yet though.
The problem comes from the default UI. You're unable to hide the group and warban frames so I've had to reduce their size and stick'em in an unused corner of my screen.

Buffthrottle - adds a minimum delay in between consecutive refreshes of a given frame's buffs and debuffs. This helps performance immensely in situations where there are a large number of buffs/debuffs flying around. (stolen from the description page at Curse.com)
It does indeed to what it says on the tin. When I played Destro - Axe Bite, I could run the game on max quality with no problems at all. RvR, Keep takes, Scenario's and PvE. All was fine. Switched back to Order - Karak-Hirn, and was getting very poor performance. Now I'm back up to Max settings and it's running smoothly again.

Junkdump - It's nice. It sells shit you don't want, without selling the stuff you do want. Yea yea it's kinda lazy. But when I got it I was playing a Sorc who was a scavanger. We did a lot of AoE groups so I was looting and scavaging so fast my bags got full of mixed crap very quickly. Run to town, sell up and go!

The addons are generally really simple anyway, they are not game breaking features (i'm sure wow players would remember stuff like witch hunter etc that actually cast spells for you when it detected certain enemy spells being cast). Anything like that is considered a cheat.

I use the curse client to instal/update for me

I use:
Actionbar color - makes the entire button red instead of just the number when out of range.
AutoDismount - dismounts when you use an ability
Autoloot - makes you loot the lot when you click a corpse(NOT automatically clicks corpse, it basically clicks the loot all button for you)
BuffThrottle
Clock - A clock.
Don't Log me bro! - they removed automatic logging in 1.0.2 so don't really need this now
Guard me! - displays a msg on screen when you are guarded, but doesn't actually work for me at the moment
Hide it please! - hides all quest/PQ details when you enter a scenario, and gives a tiny button next to minimap to hide/unhide whenever you want
Libslash - dev tool to allow most of these addons to work
Little Black Book - remembers kill counts on other players, and if they have killed u a few times etc, the reason i got it was because it is also suppsed to copy your friends/ignore list to all chars you create, but this wont work for me.
LowHP - screen msg + sound to let you know when you have reached a certain % hp.
Mobhealth - gives a % to the mobs health
Ovrons Item delver - item linking!
Smart Alert - removes the spam from the middle of the screen (ABILITY NOT READY/YOU ARE DISABLED) etc and puts it in the chat box, only prob is default UI forces it into the chatbox AND the combat window, i only really want it in combat window :(

I only ever installed curse for the item linking and action bar colours, but got a bit carried away :D

tbh though these are all small things that should have been included in the default UI, many of them were in daoc so they do have the ability.

It's a cheat when the add-on exceeds the available functionality given by the War API.
