No new Euro accounts listed on eBay for a few days now! Has the market crashed? Does everyone own an account now? Has there been a crack down by GOA? Am I typing in the wrong search terms?

Curious and curiouser...

OMG of course. ToA has totally devalued the entire eBay DAOC market - non-ToA accounts lacking artifacts and MLs are seen as inferior and worth less. Technically true. So scary though!

The price of plat is fluctuating ever downwards too. Sell now! SELL SELL SELL!

It's very odd.

In the past, you could get a decent price for most L50 chars. An account with more than one L50 got more, but not double. The price plateaued once you had 3 x L50s on the account. I'd say there was a cap of around £300 or so for an account, unless it was something extra special.

By "decent price", I mean any figure where you could reasonably feel you weren't being screwed by the person buying. A lump of money you could take and turn into, say, an MP3 player or a weekend of fun. I got £180 for my L50 friar with LGM ACer and GM alchemist, which probably worked out to about 26p per hour I had played. But I was able to go buy sexeh junk with it. Woo!

Back then, the things that got you a good price were -

1) At least one L50.
2) A desirable or popular class.
3) An LGM crafter.
4) High RR
5) Fully SC'd so you didn't need to faff around with templates.

So, my account with L50 sorc and L50 cleric of decent RR, both SC'd to cap everything, one an LGM tailor went for over £250.

The person who had that account sold it on recently and got only £110 for it! Simply because of ToA, I think. Now you need high MLs, loads of artifacts all at L10 and so on, which involves investing twice as much time again but for none of the return on eBay.

ToA has ruined eBay for me. :( My favourite game, it was.

Day 12 in the Big eBay house...and still no new Euro accounts for sale.

I'll have to go back to buying old Apple hardware if this carries on.

Buying accounts must surely suck if you have to spend months saving up your pocket money and then asking mummy to let you use her credit card, only to find out that there is an age restriction on PayPal.

Only stupid people get scammed. Or, as happened to me, smart people acting stupidly.

I was selling two US accounts and the auction was going fine. Then near the end, it went for MILES up to over $400 or something. Greed got the better of me, I am afraid to say. He wanted to pay through an escrow site, which I agreed to. Except he chose the escrow site and it turned out to be a fake one and I lost the accounts. But not to worry - chalked that one up to experience and realised it was all my own fault.

All the accounts I have bought and sold have been perfectly decent transactions. There are scammers around but they are so easy to spot it's unreal. It's rather disingenuous of you to tout the scaremonger lines, in my opinion. You have every much chance of being scammed on eBay in general.

I actually enjoyed playing at shopkeeper when I was selling the platinum I had. :D All that running around to meet "customers" at the right time and place to give them their plats and to show them I was trustworthy so I would get that sexeh +1 to my eBay rating...fun!

hmm... all the accounts going are Alb and all for pathetic prices
was thinking about selling the other day, but wouldn't part for less than $400 and I really doubt I get that for a glorified bbot with rr7.8 and mvl8 with 9 active artifacts!!!!11
maybe I should wait til NF when my reaver will be fotm :(
I think I should sell Ialk instead, he is sexier and won't notice for a few weeks :D

It's not such a great time to be selling although a high RR cleric with lot sof artifacts and MLs would be the best thing to sell...

If you're buying then it's all great. Especially if you buy into the US servers. The exchange rate right now is CRAZY MAD! I've been ordering pooploads of old Apple junk from there. Only problem is the cost of P+P but I care not. :D BRING IT ON!

What's nappies got to do with it? I am wearing some right now.

I'd suggest instead your wife doesn't let you buy things from eBay but...either way, your opinion is a bit silly.

Hhm I have to say it is very very naughty not to want to go through PvE balls-ache for several weeks (first character took over 6 months) to get to 50, only to have to PvE for weeks/months to get artes - only to be able to compete. Done that, been there, didn't like it.

Legalise Ebay ffs and treat us all like mature adults.

Oh and for all those ppl whining about Ebay trading, Im sure all those Infs,SBs and NSs really levelled their own buffbots. Incidentally if its such a joy to do your own dirty PvE work why the /level 30 command?

You aren't allowed to sell something you don't own. If you did own your characters then there'd be all sorts of legal complications.

Would you own the hard disk space they were stored on?

What if the game stopped running, would the company have to pay you compensation when your property ceased to exist?

What if you were cheating and the game company wanted to terminate or suspend your account? How do they legally stop you accessing your property?

If you owned the rights to the character what would happen if the game company published a screenshot including your character, would they need to pay you royalties?

How does it work, when the copyright is owned by the game company but you own the rights to your character?

I'm not a lawyer and these examples are off the top of my head. I'm sure that anyone with a legal background and more spare time than me could think up more situations which is why every MMO out there includes a paragraph like this in their Ts & Cs:
DAoC End User Licence said:
A DAoC account is personal and individual. You cannot open an account in the name of a company, an association or any other legal entity without express prior written consent from GOA. You are also not entitled to give, sell, lease, lend or exchange your account under any circumstances. No virtual object, character or currency in the game may be the object of a pecuniary transaction, under any form or circumstances. Any activity of this kind may result in the application of various sanctions, including termination of the account.
