Im 17 now and its still the bloody same!

am quite stuck what to do now, i've been to the GP got some medicines but they dont do anything but make it worst to be honest.

i wash twice a day, my diet is not great but alright, i drink lots of water.. arghhh !!

I never suffered that badly from acne, but in the past year or so it's more or less gone away. I still get the occasional spots but they're usually huge evil ones that don't go away. If you still suffer badly beyond your 18th birthday then I'd start to worry.

Change your diet. Eat more fresh vegetables, meats, fishes, and ditch the chocolate, crisps, etc. You'll be surprised how quickly the problem recedes.

I had slight acne when I was a teenager, as soon as I stopped eating crap it went away.

I know a lad who had it really bad up until his 18th year. He started eating really healthy, no burgers, no chips etc. It went away pretty damn quick after that.

I eat like Homer, I never go the gym and I fear the sun. I have never had acne or spots, I guess its all about how you are made.

Often the problem is caused by the skin not shedding properly, leaving the old dead skin to block pores. So exfoliating occasionally with a course sponge might help.

My sister had some trouble with acne and the doc said that there are tiers of medicines each more powerful but with potentially more side effects. Tell him the meds aren't working and he might be able to prescribe something stronger.

Should go soon but it might not, my sis was 22-23 when the doc gave her something that shifted it.

A mate of mine at uni had really bad acne. The doc gave him some pills but they dried out his skin really badly but I suppose it was better and less painful than the spots. He's grown out of the spots now but I can ask him what he was on if you like?

he was probably on Roaccutane. I was on that for about a year with mixed results. Now i just keep it down by using the "Himalaya Herbals" product range.

Wash face, then wash again using the 'deep cleansing astringent lotion' on a cotton wool pad. Then put 'Acne-n-Pimple cream' on the affected areas.

Then every week i put on the 'Neem face pack'.....yes...sounds womanly but it works

Cleared it up basicly but lapses back when i dont use it

When I was younger I suffered badly with acne, my face, shoulders were covered. I tried changing diet but to me that didn't seem to work so I went to the doctors and he sent me to the hospital for them to take a look. They put me on these pills you take once every day and within 2-3 months my face and shoulders were clearing up, come the 6 month I was free :) Roaccutane it was called, been mentioned before. The only draw back I had during these pills was the side effects, dizzyness, chapped lips, stomach ache and a face that was bright red, but tbh I didn't care aslong as I knew they were working.

I remember hearing that acne's caused by your hormones, and, as a consequence, could be with you all your days (unless it's remedied). My sis had it bad all her teenage years, but it cleared up in her early twenties.

:(

soz dude, growing up sucks sometimes, think of the good things though, like spanking the monkey 4 or 5 times a day. That wears off too unfortunately...round about your mid-thirties I'm told. :D

You rawk!!

I've never suffered from it myself, I've never been especially careful diet-wise. I get/got the odd spot, but they clear up pretty soon as long as I leave them well alone. If I'm gonna get a spot, it'll tend to be on the back of my neck (which is really annoying when I wear a collared shirt at work and it rubs) but meh, just get on with life innit. :)

I had acne until I was 19-20
Eating habits did not seem to effect it.

Go to the doctor and ask for Mino-50.
It cleared up my skin really good.
Also ask for the special soap to wash your face... can't remember the name...

Wait till puberty actually kicks in.

Unless youve got really bad acne, I wouldnt say its worth getting prescription medicine, especially as most of it has annoying side-affects. Just cut the crap from your diet and make sure you clean your skin properly -and that means washing it, exfoliating and using an astringent to close your pores. If its not gone by the time your 19-20 then maybe youve got something that does need prescription medication.

Exfoliating works well. I had quite some acne in my teens, and I found that getting some sun was the best thing for it. Kill aweh the bad skin. Sort of.

Eating healthy and such probably helps too. As said before, dont get medical aid unless you look like a acne porcupine.

Ofcourse, this all is a hormone thingy and will go away if it goes away.

Bullshit.

Honestly it is a hormone thingy. I say, wait until you're like 20 or so and then if the problem is still there, get medicatozed.

Is the special soap Quinoderm?

It makes it worse for a couple of weeks and really stings the first few times but longterm does seem to clear it up - or it did for my mate at least who found that nothing else seemed to work.

One of the most ridiculously healthy-eating friends I knew during secondary school (who regularly had insane stuff like carrot sticks in his lunchbox) was also the worst sufferer of acne I've ever seen. Really bad. His entire face was covered in a layer of spots. It's pretty much cleared up for him now, although he's been left a little scarred.

And I, while generally not eating total greasy rubbish, don't have the best diet, and have only ever really had spots on my upper back, which I'm not really bothered by. It's definitely a combination of genes, hormones and lifestyle, but obviously the genes are the fundamental decider. So yeah,

Contrary to popular myths, diet has little, if any, effect on acne. Eating 'too much chocolate' is not a cause. Nor is dirty skin. In fact, washing too often, particularly with strong soaps, can make things much worse.
Changes in hormone levels around puberty are probably the most important cause. Over-use of make-up and masking creams can affect the skin by removing its protective coating of 'friendly' bacteria or causing localised dryness. It is becoming increasingly clear that stress can be related to acne. Certainly, general ill health and being 'run down' affect the skin, making acne worse. They may even trigger it in the first place.

I generally use an antibiotic cream my doctor prescribed to the affected area. Creams containing benzoyl peroxide can help if you have mild to moderate acne. This cream can cause skin irritation to start with but this is only temporary. It can also take up to two months to work. Moderate acne can also be treated with oral antibiotics such as erythromicin. However if it is really bad, and you find that nothing your G.P gives you can help, then it might be worth asking him to refer you to a dermatologist (skin specialist). It really depends on how much it is bothering you.

Hope this helps

had acne when I was younger and lasted all through college.

Its a bastard at the time, but when you get older you realise it doesnt REALLY matter. As for health - I was probably one of the healthiest at the college and still had spots.

You know that you are REALLY getting old when you have a spot and dont try to hide it ;)

Doesn't that statement contradict it's self some what? As with a poor diet you are more likely to feel run down. Specific food types don't affect it directly but a generally poor diet will.

I must have been old at 13. Never gave a fuck about spots, it's there and it exists, and what? You got two options, take it out with a little pressure, or let it be. Depending on the type you take appropriate action.

Let's be fair here, how many of us even notice if someone else has a spot on their face? I certainly fucking don't...

thats interesting stuff venus, i do lead quite a stressful life with being at college, regular gigging with a band and working.

I'll try change my diet and see what happens, although i am a really fussy eater and hate most vegetable things. I have noticed that after eating chocolatey things it is substantially worse, and after my AS exams it was quite bad too.

I know for a fact that my acne is stress related its really bad atm (in my final year at uni). The thing is unless you can make some lifestyle changes to eliminate the stress, (which for me is almost impossible atm), then there really isnt alot you can do. Just remember that once you finish college etc and your leading a more stress free life it will ease off.

sorry swifty, gotta disagree. If someone has a big fuckoff red welt, with a yellow crown in a very prominent place on there face, then it just kinda draws your eyes right to it
