Correct, which is why the issue has to be forced. It won't ever resolve itself.

The problem with forcing it is that a sizeable chunk of people who are genuinly trying to find work will also be penalised.

Though i have to say again, if you are struggling to find a job in a field after say 2 years you might want to consider something else as there is clearly a a problem with either you as an applicant or the industry itself.

One of my best mates, from school days, was working for years as an IT something or other, then the outsourcing to India of jobs like his started and he was out of work for over a year. He didnt sit on his arse for 5 years waiting for a job that was no longer there or so scarce that he would never get a look in.

He did the only thing he could, got himself trained up in another related field and funnily enough he has been working ever since.

There is nothing wrong with change and i have always maintained its better to be on a poorly paid job for a stretch then to sit on the dole waiting for pennies from heaven to arrive. One job and the right mindset will lead to another better job, it is called progression.

Oh and if it was a joke ford prefect clue us in with a smiley next time :p I'm kinda glad it is a joke, as it's shown that Toht basically just spouts the opposite of anything stated :)

For the most part I agree with Toht on this - yes I'm suprised too. It is all very easy to say this is an excellent idea when you are in a secure job ect, but I noticed you didn't comit to answering whether you would work 40 hours per week for dole money doing a job you had little or no interest in. My guess is if you are honest, the answer would be no. Would you want your wife, girlfriend, teenage child, mother or father to do it? I wouldn't want them to be forced into that position through no fault of their own. To put it simply it should be a choice, perhaps to earn some more money at minimum wage and in no way should it involve replacing paid employees with cheap labour - that very idea makes the plan morally objectionable.

For many people this is going to be held over their heads like the sword of damacles - you do this work, regardless of how ill suited you are to it, or you lose your dole, your housing benefit and maybe your house. Nice system.

Nice joke, as it's clearly stated with the smiley :p

It's just a handy tool every time i AM against something, and easily forgotten when i'm not. Yoiu don't go pointing those out ;)

Anyhoo, the problem comes from gray areas here. People are forgetting that not everyone is a slacker and sometimes getting a job, any job, just takes time.

Yu need the right aplpciation, right time, right person and then even get a job after the interview.

Doesn't help, that if you're unemployed for 6 monthsm, people look at it negatively when you apply.

Actually I'm fairly sure I did answer it. No I wouldn't like it but I would do it. What would be the alternative?

Since we're noticing things, I notice you didn't comment on my suggestion that this could supply additional labour in a beneficial way :p
