Games AAA games at the moment

Is it me, or are they mostly just all shit? Bought AC shadows on release day, and refunded. After playing the completely excellent Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, mashing left mouse and rolling about the place just bored the piss out of me. Most releases are full of bugs, often game breaking.

Did devs get lazy during lockdown? Taking on too much? Is it just getting too complicated for them? Is it time for AI to take over? Which will happen sooner, rather than later, anyway.

As they appear to have set the price to £60, is it even worth bothering with any more? I seem to refund more than I keep.

majority of indie games i've played shit all over AAA games... problem with AAA games is capitalism, they don't want some of the money, they want all of the money so they nickle and dime us on everything they can get away with ultimately putting out a sub-par product.

Very few AAA games have been good in the last few years sadly

Yeah, really good if you've got a good rig.

I play most of the AAA games for a story. I might have another go at BG3 - completed it. But tbh, I like to make the decisions I like to make, I don't think I'd enjoy doing an "evil" run. But might give it a go anyway - it was the only game (other than HL: Alyx) that actually made me stop and go "woah, this feels new".

It's really because you've played every game before. New games are mainly just old games in a new skin.

I getting outside and doing real stuff is vastly more rewarding IMO. It's just harder to get started

I usually wait for games to go on sale. Over xmas I played the two God of War games, which are astonishingly good. Then I played Mad Max, which is decent, and now I'm playing the PC version of RDR1, which even though its old, is very good fun.

The Jedi Survivor games are fantastic. But nothing I've ever played in my life comes close to God of War.

They're both well worth buying outside a sale anyway, there's a good 50 hours gameplay each one, wonderful acting (both animation and voice), and fantastic fighting. Everything about them is just superb, I can't recommend them enough.

Most AAA games I've bought in the last few years have been a disappointment, so I'm sticking to niche and indy games.

Mixed bag, some AAA can still be enjoyable but there's normally some associated BS to go with it (pay store, platform exclusives, exorbitant costs, etc.). Indie can be the same but generally if you get a flop it's less bothersome as the prices are generally lower.

Aye and AAA games are about to go through the roof if the GTA 6 rumour is true. So, the rumour is Rockstar are going to charge $100 for GTA 6 - now, you just know every big studio greedy ceo is going to see that as a justification for their new shite game to also cost $100 and thus we're at a price increase across the board.

There's a lot of focus on GTA but the top level WWE games from 2k have both been over £100, currently the 2K25 full edition is £120.

So to me we're already here but then franchise games are going to have a rough time justifying year on year improvements

Aye, to play devils advocate for a moment given how long GTA 5 lasted and the RP online servers people seem to play in bulk, at least GTA 6 would have somewhat justification for the price tag... assuming it would last just as long as GTA 5 has.... WWE on the other hand, that shit comes out with a new edition every year, its just the COD model at this point, year on year release at the price they ask for is criminal tbh.

I disagree, I've never been into GTA but the scale of it does explain the price, Cod? No.

You go to the cinema to watch a film, costs about 20 quid for a couple of hours.

Minimum play time for GTA5 is about 32 hours. At cinema prices that'd be £320. You probably put about 80 into it, or like, 600 if you're playing online.

But I don't feel strongly about any of that tbh. You can always wait a few years and it'll come down to £15. Price of a few pints in a cheapish place.

I have more than enough unplayed games bought in sales in my Steam Library to last me at least the rest of the year. That doesn't even factor in waiting to upgrade my PC before touching games like Cyberpunk running at max-shiny.

I tend to gravitate towards games with active modding communities, get literally thousands of hours out of a game then thanks to the endless sea of mods.

Literally 0 AAA games I play at all right now. The last one/two were probably FF7-Rebirth and Astro Bot, if those are even considered AAA.

Next one I'll play will either be GTA6 or Fable 4.

Based on my 2024 Steam Replay, my top 5 were: Helldivers 2, I Am Future: Cozy Apocalypse Survival, WWE 2K23, WWE 2K24, Balatro

So basically 1 x AAA, 2 x Indie & 2 x annual franchise that I play with friends, which is pretty much on the money as I'm back on Vampire Survivors at the moment.

Like others I've loads of games I've not played yet so I have avoided buying any more for the time being even though the ones on my wish list were in the sale, I'm mainly playing Satisfactory (443hrs). I rarely buy AAA games at full price, although I suspect the next one will be GTA6.

It was so shit, that I really don't think I'll be bothering with GTA6. I think it peaked at Vice City - if only because it let me run around in an ice cream van dealing drugs.

Never really bothered with the singleplayer on GTA 5, still not finished it and prob never will... bloody love the roleplay servers though, they're funny as fuck.

Yeah, played it through twice now, but bearing in mind they had a while to sort out the bugs before it made it to PC. I might start considering the release date to be 6 months after a game starts being sold, anyway.

I bet it was great by the end, but I hated the protagonists at the beginning. I didn't like the way they talked, I didn't like the way they thought. I just fucking hated the scum.

I just thought, fuck it, go spend some time in a better headspace. I fully appreciated that I probably missed out on some cool stuff tho.

Some of the interaction in GTA5 is hilarious, especially when you do the robberies with the redneck fella. Their writers are excellent, throughout the games.

I liked GTA5, but not sure if I would pay £100 for it, plenty will, and they're a business, that generally makes quality over quantity. I don't like their microtransaction model, but it's all optional, for the online version, and again, sells.
